Yes, we are all a bit stressed. It seems the politics, economy, weather, etc have all played a part in our lives in some fashion. For me, its just looking at what is coming for me this holiday is stressful enough, add in Premature Menopause and its a lethal mix. Ugh.

I am doing my best to stay out of threads that might set me off these days.....sometimes its hard but I'm trying!

I think today will be a good day for me to bundle up and take a nice, quiet walk in the woods for some meditation and reflection. I'm hoping it helps.

That sounds so pleasant! We are having a bonus deer/ gun weekend so I will be doing the woodland walk on Monday when the hunters are gone. I find the woods resets and centers me, too.

I mentioned on another website that I didn't decorate for Christmas and if they could have come at me with pitchforks, they would have. The mod for that site told me not to post if I didn't have anything positive to say.

I posted on Facebook that I was not decorating or shopping, or cooking and my own sister called me a Scrooge and said that since I hate Christmas so much, she won't be sending me baked goods this year. Then there were a bunch of postings about how you can still have spirit even when you don't have money, there is no excuse, etc.

And all I could think was- yeah, I could, but I don't. I don't feel it. I am not religious anyway so Christmas is more of a secular holiday for me; and so much gets invested in it, it just seems like too much hype. I dont' feel like doing that to myself this year. I am tired. My daughter doesn't care. She hates all the decorating and they hype. So why should I do it?

I'll tell you, I am not celebrating again until we can afford to go to Cancun or someplace else warm again. All the money I save by not getting gifts will go towards the trip.

Hiker, you have every right to bow out this year. It is hard to go thru all that you have been dealing with and then feel like celebrating.

You are no scrooge and if your sis did send you treats it might just put a smile on your face. Why are people so self centered? :smack

I think everyone goes thru the stages of stressful Christmas, but then one day, boom, you wake up and realize---I don't have to do that!!!!LOL
hee hee thanks for saying this FC!

i think coming up with your own or new traditions helps too. this year feels like it all just snuck up on us - partly b/c we waited so long to do the pigs, then i was gone last weekend, and now wow! its right there!

i think the 'fun stuff' is for folks with little kids... which is so much fun. but once all your family kids are teens... well not as much fun as it was. i opted out of buying for the nieces when i started to feel like an ATM.

we've kinda got the 'sulks' here b/c we lost The Big Man's grandmother a couple months ago - she was the strong link in the family and now everyone has 90 excuses why we cant all get together. so that is kind of a big hole right now...and the craziness comes out mostly as frustration. we both had very different family lives so we are each missing our traditions. but those dont fit our life now - or each other. so its onward and upward or more sulking. time for something new. maybe we'll dress up that mean gander as santa and turn him loose!

our church is doing a series on having a more 'satisfying' Christmas - which we are both really enjoying. so we're transitioning away from the Xmas-palooza and back to a more religious celebration. this is working for us. we're cutting the stress by only doing what we want. FC is right - you dont HAVE to do it!

OFG - I agree with you that you need to find what is meaningful to you and do that; and the heck with what other people think you should do. If a more religious holiday makes you happy, that is where your focus should be.

we are all different and we all need to find what works for us. How many years I spent doing things that didn't work for me- it boggles my mind. Why didn't I realize I had a choice?

I'm with PG, staying away from stress inducing things like political forum threads. ;)

My favorite Christmas song this year is Amy Grant's "I Need a Silent Night."

yup, different needs, different situations, different...well everything...LOL

it is when someone thinks you MUST live as they do when trouble hits. :p

that is a good one Ohio...make your own new "easy and breezy" holiday traditions. I hear you when a person that is kinda the "cement" of a family passes. that happened here also. then it is time to change in life and make those new traditions that fit yoru family. I hear ya!!!
