I would love some of the meat, but I am A) too poor right now to buy extra meat and B) I suspect I'm too far away. :(

You are getting good lean meat from that Corriente.

When we split meat in the past we had the other parties come up with their FULL amount for the animal up front and then they contacted the processor to get their meat cut and packaged as they liked it AND THEY picked it up and paid for their own processing. Unfortunately that is the ONLY way to do it.

sorry about the other folks bowing out on you...that sucks.

From what I understand just thaw the milk "sheets" out in the fridge overnight and then transfer the thawed milk to a jar or pitcher and it should be fine. I haven't actually done it yet cause I just got my goats in May but I plan on doing it that way.

We used to freeze milk all of the time. My BIL used to work at a grocery and he was able to buy the milk that had just expired for a song. He would buy it up and bring it to us and we would pay him back. Back in that day we had three little babies at home and only my hubby working.

We would just pour out a cup of milk or so from each jug (they were in normal plastic milk jugs) to allow for expansion when freezing and leave the lid a bit loose until frozen solid. To thaw we just stuck it in the fridge. I did take a day or so to thaw that way, however, so we usually had two jugs in all of the time. One to drink and one to thaw.

When I've purchased part of a steer B4, this is the way it was done. That way, no one was stuck w/any of it.

So, I found another person to take a quarter. We're good now.

This morning, I got to do something I haven't done in a while. Go out shooting! Took DH to an indoor range and had him sit there while I ran a few rounds through a pistol I was thinking of getting. Decided I didn't particularly like that model but it sure was fun to go shooting again. I'm looking forward to them getting back the other handgun I'm thinking of getting and testing that out.

I've missed shooting. Gotta do more of that.

A lot of gun stuff going on here suddenly, isn't there?

On thursday nights, an indoor gun range near me has "ladies night" - free gun rental, ears and eyes. All you need to buy the ammo. They told me I can bring DD there. I may either take her or get DW to take her one thursday.

I got some time off this next couple days, myself, and a few boxes of ammo to spare. I may go to the rifle range.

I am recovering from bruised/cracked ribs. (I didn't get them x-rayed since treatment is the same either way.)

Today, I'm making beef stock. Trying to clear out leftovers and cannables from the freezer this week, because I've got a side of beef coming on Satyrday.

Last week, I went to the Heirloom Expo in Santa Rosa, CA. It was fun. Got to hear a speakers on seed saving, GMOs, and Alice Waters talk about the importance of relationships with farmers. I got a ton of heirloom seeds. I'm having someone dig up another bed for me this week for fall planting. I'm looking forward to having more space to plant a variety of food.

I need to organize my seeds better though. I've got a lot of them and they're not organized, so I don't actually know what I have and what I don't.

ETA: I was running with the dog, got tangled up and fell onto my arm. Stupid. Reminds me that I hate running.

So how do ya'll store and organize your seeds? Do you have a file-box or a tupperware or something else? I need to organize them better so I know what I have.
