Sounds like you had an owl. We have had a bad time here with the owls! They take the head off and sometimes come back for the body. The other night we could pinpoint 8 different owls- but there could have been more. But we have poultry netting over the coop now so.... . And they are hard to get rid of. Can't shoot them here they are protected.
