Hubby brought him home yesterday. this time he was not on our road, but in town. hubby went inot town to get a load of water and saw this dog. A woman was shooing him away, and told hubby the dog had been hanging aorund fora bout a week or two. So hubby brings him home. He's a young intact male black lab mix. Great personality, quiet,..... hubby wants to keep him. I put up an ad on kijiji,, so now just wasiting to see if we hear anything.

I should just open a rescue like Savingdogs. This is insane.

at least you try to help them which is great.....put him out there and if you can't find owner, then give him to a godo home if you can't handle another.....yea this takes time etc...but that is why you are a good person for helping strays.

just think of it as a 'burp' in life you have to deal with and nowadays with bad economy people are just dumping pets, so yea I can see "all us animal lovers" having to deal with this more and more.

Yeah, that's three dogs in a bit over a month. But I can't really have four dogs. wow.His personality will make it hard to get rid of him though. Not to mention hubby wants to keep him. Ugggh. Hopefully he gets claimed. Apparently the lady told hubby there wer a coupla dogs wandering around town the last little bit. One was picked up by the dog catcher. It steasm me to think ppl can just dump a dog, for whatever reason. I can't really blame it on the economy around ehre though. We aren't hurting like alot of places in the states.

yea well we all know people think of animals as super disposable.
which is so sad but maybe he is a lost pet if he has that good personality....who knows you might hit the owner.

also be sure to call the local pound.

give his description etc.....cause when my husky went lost a long time ago....when a kid.......I called a few days later and SOMEONE did report finding a blond husky and yup, it was Major and they had him.

so that might help ya too

With that tale, I would not expect the owner. I'd go through the motions for looking for the owner but have a plan B.

If you really like the dog, find a friend you really like to give him to (tell this to hubby). Or if you have "saved" a lot of strays by keeping them, find a home for one of the others and don't feel guilty. Which of your other dogs is least suited to your home? You can list them on Petfinder.com at a site, I'd have to search for it again but you can get dogs on petfinder and then screen adopters who apply, I could show you how to do that or do it for you. If you start to rescue dogs you need to find the way to give them away or else you will become known as the place to drop off dogs and eventually you will have more than you wanted. Tell hubby you know someone who has given away at least 200 "really good dogs" and you could be very very important to that dog, not as his owner, but as his savior.

If you really don't want another dog, just insist with hubby that he choose ONE dog to give away to a different home. Tell him you have "set a limit" for yourself at the current number. That is what rescuers do. Our limit is 5 personal dogs. No mas. No way. No more. For a while we kept six when we took my daughter's dog, but that was just too much for us since we foster as well. But tell hubby if he wants to rescue dogs he needs to do it the "right" way and find them homes if you already have too many dogs.

Establish the pattern because it will happen again, the doggie angels send the dogs to the rescuers. If I were you, I'd try to find the local group that lists strays on petfinder as there is probably one by you.

GEtting rid of another dog is not an option. Jager is 11 yo, aand Rocky is 9. We got both as puppies, and I won't even tell you what we paid for jager. Daisy is the newest addition, and I can't give her up. If this dog stays, It will be part of the pack. He doesn't chase chickens, he is very calm, and listens well. My sil might take tim, but if not. We may have a new dog. Or I will try petfinder. Never have before, but I wont be taking this one to the pound.
