Hi and Welcome!!!! I don't have any experience with slippery elm bark, but I used to have acid reflux really bad. REALLY bad. When I stopped eating gluten--breads and pastas etc, my acid reflux stopped. i no longer take any madication for it. Mmaybe that is something you culd look into?

Clean up the diet, number one. The normal clean diet will do unless you are gluten intolerant or have some food sensitivities. Normal clean: nothing processed, no white sugar, HFCS, limit natural sugars, no white flour, limit corn, no shortening, margarine, or transfats, no veg oils (limit EVOO and have some coconut oil), high quality veggies, meats with the fats, and some fruit.

To heal the damage, use lots of traditionally prepared bone broths and fermented foods such as home-prepared kefir, yogurt, kombucha, sauerkraut, fermented condiments, etc.

Slipper elm powder will speed up the healing, too. Put a couple of large rounded spoonfuls in two cups or so of water and stir it thoroughly. Put it in the fridge overnight until it congeals. Use a couple regular spoonfuls (maybe 1/4 cup total) per day. You can flavor it with a bit of honey or mix it with some fruit preserves to make it more palatable. Keep this up for at least two weeks, more if needed.

I learned this from a naturopathic doctor who was lecturing on digestive challenges. Cured my mom with this one. The clean diet keeps it from returning.

I got my slippery elm powder in the bulk spice section at Whole Foods, but it was a few years ago. You may need to find an online source. You want JUST the powdered inner bark. The tea is not as useful for this.

Thank you guys. Diet is big problem I eat like a teenager, freezer to microwave. I was able to find slippery elm in pill form, will that work or does it need to coat throat?

I'm one who does not like to take herbals in pill form....it really damages the plant material to process and compress it. Use it in as whole form as possible...not a whole tree, of course! but powdered bark. With pills, you have no idea what you are really getting, and it bypasses your throat and stomach and is not very useful.

It is time to be willing to handle your herbs, and to handle your food! Take the time and effort. It is the only way to good health. Use the time it takes to make preparations to consider your health and appreciate this wonderful body and repeat to yourself that this is time very well spent. Forget the advertising hype that it is a waste of our time to spend any time preparing food properly!

Preparing meals from scratch also gives your digestive system time to prepare for what is coming. Today's stressful world shuts down our digestion (fight or flight response shuts off digestive functions) and it takes time to warm it up before each meal....peeling, chopping, cooking, seasoning, and smelling the food as it cooks turns all that back on. It is VERY crucial.

So get some slippery elm POWDER and get crackin'! :p
