My tame cat is a great hunter! Death on all rabbits, squirrels, mice and voles/moles. He even makes half-hearted dashes at the chickens to make it look like he is tough....he usually stops mid-dash and lays down to watch them run!

My other tame cat is a sooner. Sooner eat than hunt. I am hoping he has a road accident so I can replace him with a working cat...... :p Not really..... ;)

Both were adopted from people who let litters upon litters be born at their place and who don't really care how many die from disease, inbreeding issues or worm infestation. Both are outside cats who occasionally visit inside for an evening here and there.

My sis has a female cat who would kill a deer and eat it if she could catch it....sweetest little softy lapcat you are ever to find! Death on four paws, though. :D

Tame doesn't have so much to do with it as opportunity for outside adventure and the genetic instinct to hunt. Some do, some not so much.

When our neighbors abandoned their house and the barn full of cats, we inherited them. I took the tom to the dumb friends league. The momma and her fresh liter all got spayed as soon as they were old enough. The momma was already preggers again. They live happily in our garage and keep the mouse population down. Unfortunately they like to snack on wild birds too.

The biggest favor you can do for a cat or dog is to spay or neuter them.

We had a black cat that started as a house cat, but became one of the all time great barn cats. Binx was small(maybe 4-5 pounds), but when she went semi wild, she was the neighborhood executioner. Full grown squirrels, giant sewer rats, pigeons, and lots and lots of mice. Plus she dodn't want to be petted, and very rarelt wanted inside(usually heavy rain). Sadly she disappeared...but her daughter, Footies is a fair mouser(young still), and she recently had 2 beautiful kittens that hopefully will continue the Binx dynasty.
