Wait, they let you off of school BEFORE it snowed???

When I was in school they only let us out of school if they couldn't get snow chains on the buses or if we had ice.
I know! Super retarded! We got off school if my rooster doesnt crow and thats not a lie.

Well its time to update I guess. Me and Granny have visited a lot today. We talked mainly about Revelations and then we talked Self Sufficiency.
On the SelfSufficiency aspect she wants to:

*Sow Half the garden in corn for my animals.
*Destroy the super old apple orchard who's apples rots off each summer before they are ripe.
*She wants to put the orchard in raised beds for onions, cabbage, lettuce, cucumbers, and pumpkins. SO that the big garden has room for more sweet corn, more potatoes, more sweet potatoes, more field corn, more beans, more tomatoes. We may even do peppers in the raised beds who knows.
*She also wants me to work on my chicken flock a little more. She wants more self sufficient and large birds.

So I guess I have my work cut out for me!!

LOL Our schools were shutdown last February because there were "snow flurries" reported a few miles north of us. :D

ETA - it worked out great though, because I took my 14 and 11 yr old nephews north to the next county and they saw snow for the first time in their lives - about 2-3inches.

Several years ago, my son's school was shut down, and it was announced the day b4. There was the possibility of snow. Well, it didn't snow, so he got a day off for no good reason. :/

I can't tell you how many times I sat in school watching it snow and they refused to let us go home until lunch so we could get in a half day and not have to make it up later. I actually remember doing a snow dance in one of my classes in high school....

It has happened here too, today in fact. Several systems closed completely or early in anticipation. For some it was the right decision, but for several, they could have easily gotten in a full day. We did not get out early and have yet to see a flake. The other side of the state (remember, I'm in CT so NOT all that far away) already has 7-9 inches!

I remember once in high school the administration decided to close early because a snow storm was building in intensity. We lived just far enough from school (3 miles) that I was supposed to ride the bus home (and was the last house on the route no less). I *conveniently* missed getting on the bus in the chaos, got home, had the drive shoveled out, and was back inside by the time the bus made it past the house (2.5 hours later).

Today, at least in Ohio, with the red tape, unions, legal threats, and everything else, I don't even begin to understand the thought process of closing schools - particularly here in NE Ohio where lake-effect snow bands can pummel one area and 10 miles in any direction isn't touched.
