Nicole's pre-school at church has the total package.

They give out lists and ask for all items, hygiene items being big on that list. The boxes they give out include everything to survive and I like that and donate definitely.

What about tissues or handkerchiefs? shampoo, conditioner, baby wash, diaper rash ointment, a manicure set or fingernail clippers.......hmmmmm still thinking........that's a really good idea!

Our church always has a "pounding" for couples that are getting married or having a baby. They usually put donations in a laundry basket. We got a cookbook, flour, laundry detergent, measuring cups and spoons, all kinds of basic stuff that we needed when just starting out.

Uhhhhh, MP I don't think Quail has asked for anything from anyone. This is a project she is working on with her Mom. I think she is just brainstorming for ideas.

Aly, I volunteer for an organization that coordinates people in need with those who wish to help (hncvisalia.org). Giving to others from your heart doesn't require any of that rubbish mentioned above. All that is needed is a heart for helping others, which you obviously have. If you turn it into a full time job, you would need to jump through a few hoops, but here in California, where the laws and restrictions and licenses are more prohibitive than any other state in the union, you are free to collect and distribute gifts as you feel led. I cannot imagine any other state would require something if this state doesn't.

Aly.....I wanted to tell you that this is a hugely wonderful idea and that you have turned your bad times into thinking of others, instead of sitting around wrapped in misery, is a testament of faith and I applaud you for it. I am so very humbled by your love for your fellow man and your move to put that love into action....especially at this time in your life. :clap :celebrate :thumbsup

Hugs and kudos to you, Aly-girl! :hugs :frow

EXCELLENT IDEA! :ya

You know what else? Someone mentioned a SHTF scenario. The conventional wisdom is that toilet paper with be a hot commodity when people are faced with a sudden shift in their living situation.

Lots of people stockpile food, but forget things like toilet paper, bar soap and other personal hygiene items.

You are doing GREAT WORK by just planning such an enterprise. ^5!!!!

Sooo I'm guessing I missed something or a post or something, because folks, I logged off and watched Christmas shows with my kids last night, and talked with Ernie, and looked to see what I may already have on hand to put into that first basket. This morning, I'm seeing some posts that, well, I don't know what rubbish was said! (that's probably a good thing!)

No, I didn't ask for anything from anyone-wait, I did ask one person to help "name" this project, because people need a name they can toss out there and say, "Hey, we've another whole week to payday, and I just used that last sheet of TP....I'll stop by_______ and see if they can help!" (or maybe they accidentally dropped the last roll in toilet water....) I did ask Becca and her mom if they thought this would be a project that our Church would be interested in taking on, and I'm happy to turn it over to them if so, I'd be happy with just helping fill the baskets!! :D

My ultimate goal of posting it here is to give all of YOU the desire to do something in YOUR community. I'm sure every community has at least ONE family who could use some toilet paper.

I don't know about ya'll, but I don't think I really wanna use my Sears and Roebuck (hahaha) like my Grandpa did! ;) and I don't wish for anyone else to have to use a book or magazine.

I do still need a family for the first basket. I voiced concern to Ernie last night, "What if we don't find a family?" He is confident that we'll get a family to give to.

So far, for the first basket, I have a 12 pack of toilet paper, razors, a box of laundry soap, hand sanitizer, dish soap, and deodorant. :D

Good Morning, sounds like your first basket is on it's way. Even if your church does not want to develop a program, which would be crazy. I am sure they would know who would need it.

Not so funny story about toilet paper. When I was a kid my mom would always bring some home from work with her. When she used the ladies room she would roll up extra and stick it in her bag. Goes to show how poor we were. I always wondered why our TP had no tubes down the middle. Duh!!!

Your on the right track, stick with it.

I think a ministry that provides toilet paper to those who have suffered loss of income, etc., ought to be called "Wiped Out". But that's because I am sick and twisted. And no church would get behind that. (Rimshot)

Wonder if you could contact manufacturers for donations? I read on the internet that one company sends free toilet paper to people with advertising on it, based on their likes and dislikes. With my luck, the ink would transfer and my rear end would be advertising some ridiculous product !

You've got something here, Aly.

I just wanted to mention that the 99 cents Only store has a web site 99only dot com, that allows you to order case lots and ship them anywhere in the country. I don't know about the shipping cost.

Also, I just sent a 20 pound package to my brother's family for Christmas using the Post Office's flat rate box and it was only $14. I saved $10 off of normal postage. I am sure you folks knew that already.

Praying that the Lord will bring the right person/family to you for your first box....
