Aparently there is a computer hardware out now...if you post pictures, Craigslist, E Bay, im sure even here.....that this hardware can pinpoint where the picture was taken, to within 15 ft!!!!! A woman took a picture of her 2 little girls wearing new shoes. Now, the pic was just from the knees down...in a bedroom...all you saw was the feet, carpet, and you could tell there was a bed behind them. They was able to use this hardware....and find that she lived in california...AND, they pinpointed her address!!!! Its scary how advanced this all is.

Uh, does that not sound just a leeeeetle implausible if you think about it.

(Unless some cameras now encode GPS data with pics, which I suppose is possible, but that is a *whole* different thing)

once again, insanely glad i have a stone age phone from the dollar store.

i noticed they said something about facebook letting you "connect" with folks? i'm gonna see what i can find out about that also.

here's my "wow technology NOT helping" story

someone i know is having an affair. (no i dont support this) they have been communicating with the "friend" in question via facebook. not very subtly - for a while they were others only "friends".... thinking it was safer than email.

so.... of course the spouse of the "friend" was looking around...and was able to determine the offender (the person i know) because they were "tagged" in a group picture from on someone else's page. the pic told the whole story, if you know what i mean.

there was a lot of fancy talking to explain that one.

a good lesson to be careful what you post...and be careful what other people post... and to keep your pants on and not have an affair for heavens sakes!

nope its real. if you take a pic from your gps enabled phone it imbeds the lat and longitude. i'm sure there is a way to turn it off.

Well there ya go then, it *is* b/c gps coordinates are embedded in some pics.... but, I mean, duh, what would you then EXPECT using something like that :p

IMHO it is not so much as "nothing is safe anymore" as "people tend not to think about what they are doing".

I heard they were starting to make phones that transfer data into your brain when you talk on them. It's like having a chip embedded. That way they can track where you are all the time. It's a homeland security thing.

Yeah, I could understand where a phone embedding the coordinates would be very useful for documentation purposes. It's funny how much stuff shows like CSI make people think that science can do. I wonder how accurate that GPS on the phone is. As in within feet and inches.

As an unrelated but sort of related question. Does anyone know if a company can monitor one of their vehicles using a Garmin or TomTom. In other words check up on their employees driving habits and the routes they are taking.
