Another friend of mine is deeply involved in Boer goats. Her sister is the owner of M & C Farms Boer Goats in Springfield OH. http://www.mandcfarms.com/

They even have a new program where they are selling embryos and they will even flush your doe and provide recipient does for the embryos! http://www.mandcfarms.com/ohioreproductivecenter.htm

And to think - horse person that I basically am - I always though A.I. was an "advanced" technique.

That is SUPER COOL that your boys have already received training in A.I. ... you just NEVER know when something like that might just come in handy.

I agree 13 miles is a short transport to get a proven bull that you like.

So how long until we can read about her "date"?

Hey Bee....what type of job did your boy get and did he enjoy his first day?
He got a job as a cook, of all things, and loves it! He really enjoys cooking....don't ask me where that comes from! I have a brother somewhat like my son, who always enjoyed cooking, cleaning and other traditionally woman roles. He was a big hit at college, I might add. So was my son...not many of the fellows know how to do their laundry or iron when they get there.

He's also very happy because his workplace is two doors down from his girlfriend's work......and let me tell you folks----obsession!!! They talk constantly on the phone, can't seem to get enough of each other and have been dating for 8 months. I can't recall being so very clingy with any past love, so I'm not one to gauge but .... :sick I'm happy for him, though! :D

Bee, that is fantastic that he's enjoying his new job. As for his girlfriend, I'm glad that you are happy for him. I am too. I enjoy being around young people in love (as long as it isn't interfering with doing their jobs well). Once upon a time, DH and I lived and worked together and rarely fought throughout it. That period lasted the first 1 1/2 years. We both worked in the same department and even worked side-by-side for some of it. When we fought during that time, it was over work procedure as he likes to color outside the lines and I am more by the book. I actually miss working with him. We make a good team when we set our minds to it.

Yeah, Aiden, I hear you! She is a very nice, quiet, studious girl and a good match for him, so I don't mind them being in love....but the incessant need to be in constant communication is mildly irritating!

Oh, to be young again and in LOVE! :drool :love

They actually have 'guns' that you can use to do it. The thing about goats is if they cough, you have to do it again!

I researched AI when I was gonna buy some semen straws from Blissberry Nubians but couldn't get a nitrogen tank rented, and I didn't want to hassle her to come do it, so I ended up going and buying a $1250 buck from her. Atleast he'll pay himself off.

I could have gotten enough semen for my does for $175, but this way I can always rent him out for services, and if I ever find a nitrogen tank, I can sell semen. That sounds wierd.

Sick isn't it? I'm sure you find that in all animals though..

But yeah his dam and sire are national champions, something or other. I'm in it for the expensive offspring and milk, I don't plan on showing a whole lot.

Yes! The fellow I bought my sheep from is buying a lamb ram for a discount price of $250 and he is a runt. If he had bought one of the prime yearling rams of the Royal White breed, he would have paid $900!!!

I sure hope I can breed the Betty's to his runt when he gets it.... :drool

If I buy two more off him this fall we may call them Betty Boop and Bouncin' Betty. That way we have all Betty's.

Like anything Bee----all animal prices can be jacked for the registered breeds etc. Look at some horse prices, who would pay that...Not me..HA HA HA

my first Boer buck was $400....older and registered. If you go into any biz. and decided to do "the show types" etc. the prices can be outrageous.

Serious goat people...oh yea, along with serious rabbit people, chicken people, horse people, cow people...HA HA HA

Bee, I love, love, love those names. It keeps it simple if you can train them to all come to "Betty!!!"

It's no wonder I like "mutts". I once looked into a Male German Shepherd. They wanted $1500 for him and that was a steal at the time.
