Lori, I think I'll do the Gauley next time! What a great job those river guides have! If I were a young man, that's what I would be doing for the summer! :p How cool is that job?

Oh I know, right? Our guide was so short they had to build her a platform with a gigantic paddle to steer us with

I loved the Gauley, did you get to do the rodeo thing?

Rodeo? No! What was that? We did get to "surf", which meant that they played around in some of the rapids and let us keep going back in to be buffeted around and spewed back out...that was pretty fun.

Bee,..so glad you had a good time down here in our part of the country! People love that New River! I myself have never been rafting, but I have a cousin who goes every year, she comes down from Ohio. Her family loves it and they always stop by and see me on their way home. The closest I have been is fishing in the New River down at Sandstone, below Hinton. Its great fishing though!

Okay, they move everyone to the back of the boat and clip rope onto the front of the raft and pick a volunteer to sit on the front of the boat holding only the rope while you go over some class 3 rapids! Rodeo time!!! If the person didn't fall off then everyone from the back of the boat rushed forward and pushed them off!!! It was really fun!

Your New River don't taste so bad, ya know? But its playing havoc with my sinuses! You live there but you've never rafted? No way! If they had that around here, I'd be on that river every week......I'd work out some trade of massages for rafting privileges or somethin'! :D We don't have a river big enough for rafting here. What a great job opportunity for young people if they did.....no summer jobs around here at all.

Our economy in this area is based on our rivers and lakes. Tourism is the thing. I live about 3 miles from the Greenbrier river which runs into the New River. Hinton is about 25 miles away and of course they have Bluestone lake, and then there is Pipestem Park and we have any type of camping, hiking, fishing thing you can imagine. The rafting stuff is in Fayette county, which is about and hour or less away. I know it is a shame to have all this great stuff in our backyard basically and we never do anything....we can't even make enough time to go fishing anymore. Sad,..:hit

Up-the-Creek, you've got to make time for fishing!! It is amazing how revitalized you feel after being away from the property for a few hours.. It is all we ever manage to squeeze out. And it is even better, if you actually catch something!!!
believe me, it is worth the effort!!!

Now THAT sounds fun! We didn't get to do that...... :( Maybe next time! :D

Up-the-Creek, I haven't been taking any time to have fun lately either and it really was getting me down. Now I see how important it is and what I have been missing. Going to invest in more "Me Time" from now on, as it does me some good to get away and see other things, do other things, breath other air.

You really oughta take a fun rafting trip....they have great summer deals right now. We got one for $79 per person for a whole day's trip and lunch on the river.

He works 60 to 70 hours a week then comes home and wants to "work" around the house all weekend! :barnie He is just no fun!
