Thanks, everyone! They had a meal together and danced, spent the day together much the way they used to do....she cut his hair, trimmed his nails, pampered him around, etc. The only thing different is that he lives in a nursing home and can't remember much~but he always remembers her and how much he loves her. It was a good day.
Almost broke down and bought a GP to help the old Jake guard all these meaties....then did a cost comparison between a Premiere electric poultry netting fence and the cost of the dog, the spay/neuter, the feed and possible vet care for the next 10-14 years.
The fence cost $165, has the fence posts already attached, is 42" X 164 ft., lasts for 7 years and runs on my solar charger, and can be put away when not in use, does not require any extra money after initial purchase and doesn't require feed, vetting, etc. Does not bark, dig holes, wander off, need training, or resist training in any way.
The dog will cost $100 and will need all of the above mentioned things. He would provide companionship to my other dog, which is a good thing and I would probably fall in love with him too, which is probably not a good thing. When he stops working or malfunctions(dies), it will hurt and require some emotional adjustment and a huge hole to be dug. The fence can die without me crying or having to use a shovel.
Today we bought the fence. Sorry, Jake, no buddy for you....
I'll post a pic and let you know! It was a hard decision because Jake really needs interaction with another dog... I feel sorry for him because he really enjoys playing with another dog and it provided good exercise for him.
Happy Anniversary to your parents! How wonderful!! I hope we make it that far too
Nice on the fence, bummer for Jake As Pinky said, if it is meant to be it will happen
