I spoke with one of their representatives today and found out they are looking for an assistant director! I would have to attend some training in Colorado if they offered me the job.....man, wouldn't I hate THAT?
What does the job pay, you ask? Room and board only. Isn't that a hoot? I love it! What more could one ask for? If you have food and shelter, well, there isn't much else a body needs. I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be at this point in my life, truly.
If the job had paid a wage I'd have just used it on the kids and the home anyway, so this suits me to a T. I'm praying they can use me to help in any way....I never really aspired to run anything but merely to be of service, so if this works out that I fill this position for them then it is all extra blessings I'd never counted on.
Had a humongous yard sale this weekend....whew! I never knew just how much work a yard sale was!!! We ran out of tables and had to construct one from plywood and concrete blocks. Sold everything in all the buildings, the attics, all the drawers, shelves, closets, outbuildings and yard. I took the week off work and The Bat and her sis, Betty, came in on Wed. to help....and man, did they help! Those two little old ladies, 76 and 79, respectively, worked me into the ground!
Then I had a son and his girlfriend to come in on Fri and Sat. to help and another son to help on Sat. It took that many people to move all that stuff, organize it and tag it and we barely got it done the night before the sale.
The worst part? Realizing that I had accumulated all those THINGS. I was ashamed and overwhelmed! How could one single woman accumulate that much stuff???? I know I am a pack rat of all things free, things to be repurposed, things to be crafted and things for SS living....but this was ridiculous.
The goal was to move things out of the gate and off the property and the money was a mere by-product...this is what I told all my workers. All prices negotiable and many things went for free. We made $982 in two days and still two whole tables left over. I gave each of my main work crew $100 each out of the proceeds and banked the rest.
One of the families that came to the sale is one of those clans that dumpster dive professionally and get a large part of their income from scrounging and selling unwanted items~scrap metal, appliances, etc. I called them at the and of the sale and told them to come and get the left items and they came immediately~all 4 vehicles and two trailers and a huge work crew! They were like locusts! A light dawned in my mind and I asked them, "See anything else on this property you could use?" They did.
They picked all buildings clean of anything!!!!! All tin, wood, wire, concrete blocks, jars, items of all sorts and nature....you name it, it was gone! My property is now ready to vacate! :bun
I have one room of boy's clothing left to sort and bag and they said they would come and get those also.
I feel so blessed and content to be done with all things and be one step closer to leaving....I just walked around in a golden glow all day yesterday feeling like I'd won the lottery!
As soon as I can I'll post a pic of the tremendous amount of junk I sold...I couldn't even get it all into one pic but I tried. The tools went first and my "man" table full of odds and ends of tools, fasteners, household repair, farming implements, etc. was picked clean next. The women items left the second day when a different sort of buyer stopped....the nonlocals. One couple, who lived clear across the state, arrived on a motorcycle and bought the biggest items! They will pick them up in two weeks.
One fellow came the day before the sale and was really wanting my chicken feeders and waterers....said he would be back early the next morning a half hour before the sale. And he was. He returned 4 times that day and bought tons of stuff! He was just getting into chickens.
All in all it was quite a marathon of working and selling and an experience I would never want to repeat~but it was educational and cathartic also and I'm glad to have it all done.
Now I am down to basic living furniture, boxes of books, basic clothing and hygiene, basic and minimal cooking and food storage. I'm getting closer and closer to being ready to have a portable lifestyle so I can volunteer for missions. Another month and I should have this place shining like a new penny, empty as a widow's heart and ready for the next tenant. I only pray they have as many good memories here that I have had!
During this yard sale marathon we also painted the porch, the mailbox, etc., entertained and cooked for visiting family, The Bat fixed my clothing dryer, we cleaned out and burned a lot of old boxes, newspapers, etc. and had a lot of good fellowship. God is truly a great and wonderful Father to me and has blessed me to the max!
P.S. Black Betty had a healthy set of twins two weeks ago and Little Mo had a set of twins last week....all lovely and healthy. They are doing well in their herd and the farmer intends to keep them as breeding stock. He is even planning on using Black Betty's little ram as a breeding ram, as he was so prettily marked. I also got to see my chicken flock and they remembered me....they aren't as happy as here, I could tell, but they are still healthy and producing like mad. Life is good, isn't it?
Life is good Bee! So happy to see you have a goal set and ae working toward it the way you are! I am not surprsed though, go getter that you are! It is wonderful that things went well this weekend with the garage sale and that you are walking away with a nice chunk of change too! WHOOT!

Oh Bee, congrats on the sale. Sounds like you not only unloaded physical, but mentally as well. It must be a great feeling to be light footed. Ready for the Lords work. We sure do miss you around here. Are you still thinking of that book? I for one would LOVE to read of your adventures.
