I agree with this. If you read anything about the early pioneers the issue of fats~ and getting enough in their diets~ was always there. Animal fats of any kind were like gold back then, for a multitude of reasons. Cooking oils are the one thing I find myself running out of when things get skinny...I use them to make breads, fry taters, even when I cook beans. Hard to store for fear of going rancid after a time.Oils are the next most valuable item because you need them to survive,regardless of how much grain and beans you have.
