:ya It's working! :ya It's working! :ya

With all my preaching about all this over processed nonfood that they like I am seeing real changes!

18 yr old was about to leave for the beach and asked me to make her a sandwich so that she would not be tempted by fast food. I made her a turkey, cheese and avo on whole wheat (which typically she will not eat, but she polished off the LAST of the white bread yesterday...thank God that is gone) but I went out on a limb and added sprouts...told her they were good and she ate it...said they weren't bad.

DD6 asked for bananas and strawberries with her PB WW sammy instead of cheetos (cuz, we don't have any!) then later asked if she could have some raw almonds, even later a cup of kefir and sliced banana (who is this child?)

DD16 was going to the pool I gave her money to buy food and she took a little bag of raw nuts in her purse in case she needed a snack.

DS13 is a little slower to come around, but he did have PB on WW toast this morning instead of his usual white bread...he was not happy but he ate it.

Not having the crap is the key. I mean I knew that but had just never really taken a hard line. Now here we are day 3 and they are relenting! I am wining!!!
Thanks for all your support and good advice!

Last night I made homemade spaghetti sauce filled with eggplant, red bell peppers, garlic, onions and mushrooms. It was so chunky that we barely used any of the ww spaghetti underneath. That was my idea, fewer carbs and more veggies and protein. I used ground turkey that I had left over in the freezer.

We were so stuffed on the sauce and that little bit of pasta, there was no room for dessert or a snack later.
That is how we eat pasta, mostly veggies and meat sauce and a tiny bit of ww pasta....so yummy that way!

Dace.....YAY! :weee And good for you, taking the kids to see that movie. I agree, it is worth the extra money to see it on a big screen, and to support it, too. DH came out of that theater so much more onboard with what I am trying to accomplish. He was always quietly supportive, but now he is motivated.

Blackbird.....ooooo, your dad would be in such trouble with me around!!! Tee-hee!

WZ, you are a hoot-n-a-half!

Yay!!! :ya

Seriously, once they get their taste buds adjusted they prob won't go back! Memaw buys DKs their own bread, cause they(kids) won't touch white bread. Tastes like cardboard. My 'rents don't eat whole grain bread. Too much flavor they say!! What?!?

I use ribbon cut cabbage cooked in butter instead of pasta. Tastes FANTASTIC with grilled chicken and alfredo sauce :D

Thats a great idea too. I also use spaghetti squash. (I happened to buy all of this ww pasta for a $1 per box to stock up my pantry BEFORE I started this "Sally Fallon" kick...so we are slowly using it up sparingly.

One thing I was going to say is sometimes you can't be perfect...when feeding kids. My problem is when a friend comes over and they spend the day and then the night. My daughter has a picky eater for a best friend. I usually allow some cheating when little "Dallas" comes over. I also cheat once in a while on the weekends too. (I used to cheat all weekend long, and eat perfectly Monday-Friday, but it finally cought up with me and landed right on my bottom.) Now I cheat during a meal once a week, if at all. YOu can't be perfect all the time...at least I can't.

I also have seen summer squash used that way...peel it into ribbons and saute in butter with garlic....yum.

So we had a little back slide this AM. My 16 yr old and a little melt down because I would not make her pancakes. I did not make them for 2 reasons, 1) it was 11:15  and 2) because I prefer she not make that choice....although if she had gotten out a bowl and started mixing I would have let it go ;)

I explained that I am not opposed to that type of breakfast once in a while, but right now we are trying to wean ourselves from the processed garbage and sugar. She was mad and felt like I had yanked the rug out from under them without their consent. She can be very closed minded about food sometimes and very open at other times...this was a closed minded moment. She ended up with WW peanut butter toast (still lots of processed garbage but better than Bisquick pancakes and commercial syrup.

The war wages on.

Do you have chickens? I make my daughter some "sprouted" bread toast and fresh eggs. I have also made French toast out of fresh eggs and this sprouted bread...yum!

Breakfast time can be tricky. I have local honey unstead of syrups..my next purchase after the honey is gone is pure maple syrup.

Last night I made chicken tortillia soup, it is one of my favorite soups that my daughter loves too. Filled with veggies of all sorts, you can mix and match.

Chicken stock
Cumin about 1 tsp
salt and pepper to taste
cut up chicken
two celery ribs chopped
one chopped ploblano pepper (I usually use jalapenos, but didn't have and the ploblano pepper instead...it was even better)
one chopped onion
one chopped red pepper
baby bok choy chopped
black beans
kidney beans
a little corn
handful of cilantro and some more for garnish
avacado for garnish
plain yogurt for garnish
grated cheese of your choice for garnish, last night I used cheddar
diced onion for garnish

My 12 year old loves this soup and I make it about once a week. Good the next day for lunches.

corn chips of your choice (I used to make my own by deep frying sliced flour or corn tortillias) go easy on the chips...last night I forgot to serve with the chips and nobody cared.
