Trees down with these strong winds, after heavy rains recently, has made for outages in a wide area. So far, only an hr this past morning here. Far luckier than those going all day. Especially with these temps and possibly no heat. It's chilly in here and I do have heat.

Same here but not all from this storm. After the drought this year and then so much rain and some wind they are toppling constantly. Neighbor dragged a couple off the road recently and the county came out last week and took several out of the ditches so they wouldn't block drainage. Mostly "junk" tallow trees, but a tree is a tree. Sad to see them go...

Like millions of other travelers, DD and family didn't make it out of Florida yesterday. By the time the SEATAC Delta flight left 6 hours later, it landed in Ft Lauderdale at 10:40 pm. Hurray!! NOPE. They promptly cancelled the flight. I guess flying is no longer friendly. The family was offered $15 flight food voucher, only good inside the airplane, and expired today. There was no hotel accommodation offer.

So they spent the night at an airport hotel. Woke up this a.m., after getting there at 1:30 a.m., to find that there was no way home on Delta until Tuesday early a.m. DGD cried a tiny bit. Missing Christmas at their home. Troubled DGS got angry, but he was so over the top about all this anyway.

So DD salvaged the trip. Today they are renting a car and going up to Orlando. They want to go to Universal Studios, but I recommended very highly to go to the Johnson Space Center (is that even its name anymore). Its fabulous!! I hope they go.

Here is still a solid sheet of ice. Hubs went down to the chickens at 4 yesterday and boy oh boy, it was all he could do not to fall. He found the coop door shut and two white chickens outside. He caught them, put them in the coop, pours hot water over the waterer, at which point several chickens ran over and started to drink. Then he slowly made it back up to the house, holding on to the shepherd and then railings. I hope it starts to thaw a bit. DD's cat hasn't had a meal since two days ago. And I'm sure he's not happy about that!!

At least that's close to a silver lining! Glad they're getting something positive out of the trip!

the wind is still pretty strong so for today's adventure i went out to clear a snow drift off the driveway so we can get in and out of the garage with the car. the rest of the driveway is being kept clear by the wind tunnel through the trees.

out by the road without any tree protection at all i just looked at that and said "Nope, not now...", where the snow plows have filled it all in i'll go out in the morning and get it done no matter what the wind situation is like. it makes no sense to do it today with the wind blowing plus they will want to fill it back in when they keep plowing. why do it twice?

next week mid-to upper 40s in the forecast for at least two days so far.
