I am planting taters in garbage cans this year. The first ones I planted are almost ready for some more mulch :D

About Fruit.... ;) This year we've also planted raspberry bushes, and 11 blueberry bushes. I know that's going to be gads of fruit but..........

Along the fencerow in the overgrown areas are these trees.. and I thought they looked like apple trees, and my neighbor conformed they were crab apples

Anybody eat them? I remember doing it as a kid and my parents telling me I'd get a tummy ache, but don't remember getting it. Loved the sweet tart taste. Wonder if I still will?

Thinking what kind of pies they'd make?

Yes, you can eat crabapples. I have a recipe for gingered crabapples, and a fewe otehres I can't think of the names for, and you can use them in combination with regular apples, like a crab--apple crisp etc. Eating them raw, if you ate too many, you probably would get a belly ache, just like if you eat alot of anything that tart. My son loves raw crabapples.

My mom made jelly from them, and the little ones that look like cherries she pickled....a sweet cinnamon pickle that I LOVED. She pickled them whole with the stems.

How do you keep the dang deer out of your garden? I have to run an electric fence if we want to see anything but hoof prints! Nice garden!

That isn't an issue where I am but I have friends that battle deer invasion on a regular basis. With all the stuff they have tried I really do think an electric fence is your best bet!

I've made those before too.

Yeah, we don't have a deer problem here either. Not saying there is no deer, just our dogs have free range over all of our property, adn we have never had an iisue with deer, rabbits, or predators with my free ranging animals.
