@Britesea I can't imagine it would be at all difficult to make the spool rollers, the ones I saw were made of wood, and even with my basic woodworking skills and some scrap wood I would probably be able to make 1 in 20 minutes or so, if I had access to something other than a tiny hand saw.

You're right, of course. I was thinking of something fancier than just a spool. Maybe with a crank handle or something. But a simple spool would work just fine. I'm thinking I could make one by cutting a dowel to size and just tacking some heavy cardboard disks at each end to keep it all neat.

Thanks for the link, Wendy. That looks doable! Now I just need some old sheets.

Just wanted to let everyone know I'm not at home so I can't access the computer often. We got a level 3 evacuation alert over the weekend and got out of Dodge. We are currently staying in a 5th wheel belonging to the friends that rent my mom's old house. So far the house is ok- the evacuation level has been lowered to 2 this morning and the fire is 30% contained. If the weather cooperates, we might be able to return home for good tomorrow. (we've been making daily trips back to feed and water the ducks that I had to leave behind. Somebody has started a nest- there were 14 eggs in it yesterday).
Monday DH had his surgery on his arm and everything went very well. He's in pain but dealing with it. He has 8 weeks in a cast now, then 4 weeks of therapy before he can return to work.

I didn't realize that there was even any fire out there! Hope you don't lose anything to it.

Hope hubby heals up well now and is able to return to work when they're saying.

Well, I'm finally able to get online a bit again. I came home on Wednesday to take care of the ducks and drop off some of the clothes I had piled in the car (When we evacuated I decided I wanted to bring at least some of our possessions so that if the fire destroyed our home we wouldn't be left with just the clothes on our backs until the insurance kicked in). I went into the garden to check on stuff and saw that the Rat tail Radishes could use some harvesting. I picked a double handful and tried to stand up. And couldn't. I finally managed to get into the house, nearly bent over double and crying all the way. Got an ice pack out of the freezer and took some Ibuprofen and lay down on the bed. I called DH and told him that I had been hit with Pinched Nerve From Hell.
By morning, I could no longer even get up enough to go to the bathroom. DH called the ambulance and they came in, but decided to try and see if they could help me get out to the car instead of going in the ambulance. Very painful process but we made it.
So I've been taking Prednisone for the inflammation, plus Norco and a muscle relaxer. DH has been trying to take care of his needs one handed, and DS has been a Superhero and helping both of us. This is the first day I've been able to sit at the computer (I have something like 311 emails :ep)
