It is a gorgeous day here. 40 degrees!
After receiving well over a foot of heavy wet snow two days ago, I am pleased to say that it is melting.
still have huge snowbanks and over a foot of old snow that is hanging around as well.
Bear baiting starts next week, and it looks like we will snow machine to the station to set it up, rather then hike as usual. Crazy!
In case any of you wonder why in the world we partake in baiting, let me explain.
Black bear are the biggest predator to moose around here.
The population is huge and in order to help keep it under control, baiting is encouraged.
Our current station is in an area that allows 1 bear per person, per season on bait. More can be harvested via tracking or bloodhound.
Next year, because we have hardly made a dent, the limit jumps to 3 per license.
Baiting is also a super hard way to hunt. Stations must be 1 full mile from any building, and it must be baited at least every other day. Ours is 2 miles from our house, and the hike is over horrible trails and swamps. The trails are winter trails for mushers, so summer hiking is killer.
So no worries about easy kills this way.
In June, we have back to back weddings to attend.
Two siblings in our church are marrying two other singles in our meeting.
Because of the huge number of family and friends from out of state that plan to attend both, one will be held Friday night and the other Saturday afternoon.
Two separate churches are being rented, so as to make decorating and such easier (we meet in a house) .
I have to get busy figuring out gifts
