Do you mean the big ones in the first pic on the right side? We used those for birdhouse gourds last year, and this year, I am growing loofas, so I'm going to see how they do with a trellis. The smaller one behind those is for the peas. Hubby's been trellis crazy this year. :) But that's okay by me, he does such a nice job.

I decided to make some yogurt yesterday, but something went terribly wrong. I used some yogurt that I had left over from my last batch, proceeded as usual, but when I checked on it, it didn't look anything like yogurt. It had seperated; it looked like I had put vinegar in it. So, I strained the whey out, and kept the solids in a container. It doesn't smell bad or anything, I'm not sure what happened. :hu Hopefully it's still good to use for something.

I went to a garage sale a while ago because my MIL told me that they were selling a bunch of soap making stuff. So, I bought what I thought were some big hunks of beeswax for a couple bucks. I took them out and looked at them more closely, and it appears that at least one hunk is not actually beeswax, but a beeswax blend. That chunk was still in its box, the other is just in a big ziploc bag. The box says Beeswax Plus + Multipurpose Blended Wax, and it's made by a company called Walnut Hill Company.

I have been searching the internet for this company, and I can't find anything. I want to know what else is in the beeswax blend. If it is petroluem based stuff, I'm not going to use it for soaps or lotions, but I have no clue what ingredients are in this stuff. And, I don't know if the other chunk is a blend as well, or actually beeswax. I asked the lady, "Is this beeswax?" And she said, "Yep." But maybe she didn't know what she was talking about. Maybe I'll just have to learn how to make candles...

No ideas on the beeswax or yogurt but I love your quote in your signature line!

Making candles isn't a bad thing- a nice way to spend a day and very SS ;) I did it when my kids were little.

I didn't know you could grow loofas! I have thought about growing the big gourds since my FIL makes lovely carved and painted gourds out of them, but we have so little sunny land as it is, it is all taken up with crops. Are you going to make them into birdhouses, or decorate and sell them?

This is one in process

I think I'm going to look into candlemaking. I've always thought about it, but decided against it, because I already have lots of crafts that I work on. But, it is SS, isn't it, and it's good to have some candles just in case.

Val, those gourds are awesome! We plan on making birdhouses out them for christmas gifts this year. We grew them last year, with the inent of gifting them at x-mas, but they weren't dry enough yet by the time the holidays rolled around. They're good and dried out now though.

This is my first time growing loofas, so we'll see how it goes. We are trying to train them up a trellis, and so far they are taking to it pretty well, so they're not taking up too much space in the garden since they're growing up rather than out. We also grew our birdhouse gourds up the same trelllis last year, and they did wonderfully. They made a nice "wall" on the north side of the garden for a little privacy, and they got the prettiest white flowers.

You put vinegar in yogurt? Wouldn't that give you a variety of farmer's cheese instead?

I bought loofa seeds but didn't get them planted this year, dang it. That carved birdhouse gourd is wonderful! I have 4 big gourds hanging out in the shop, waiting for time and inspiration.
