Not feeling the greatest today. I got invited to go have a couple drinks with some coworkers after work last night. I figured the kids are out of town, so what the heck, sounds like fun. Bad idea. This is the first hangover I've had in a long time, and let me tell you, it wasn't something that I missed. So, needless to say, not much is getting done today. :p I did fold some laundry while I watched the Create channel from PBS. There are actually some good shows on there.

Well, I think I'm going to go to the grocery store and get a couple ingredients I need to make Abi's Bacon Chocolate Chip cookies. They sound really good!

Hope everyone has a great weekend! :)

What have I been up to lately... Well, I tried my hand at making some beef jerky this week. I made honey bbq flavor, and dehydrated it in my Nesco. It turned out great! The kids love eating it for a snack.

I also have been making rose oil, by infusing rose petals in almond oil. I've just been plucking the petals off the rose flowers and putting them in a jar and covering with the oil. I have never tried this before, so I wasn't sure how much fragrance would be infused into the oil. I was very happy to find that it has a very lovely smell! I will definitely be making more of this for Christmas time. I don't know if I will gift just the infused oil, or if I will try to incorporate the oil into a balm or soap. I'm thinking the fragrance might be lost if I try to add it to soap though.

I have lots and lots of yellow pear tomatoes ripening, so this weekend, I will be experimenting with dehydrating them. I need to find a recipe for that. I am not sure if they need to be blanched first, and if they should be cut or left whole. They are rather small, so I'm guessing that I could just leave them whole.

I just bought a big jug of Olive Oil from Mountain Rose Herbs, so this weekend, I will be making infused oils like crazy with all the herbs I have growing right now. And if time permits, I may even make a batch of soap. :fl

Hubby's going to be working on the chicken coop this weekend, if the rain holds off. I hope he gets it done soon! I hate to say it since it's only early August, but I can feel fall in the air. I am predicting that it's going to come early this year. I don't know why, I just have a feeling about it. I hope I'm wrong though!

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! :D

Years ago a friend showed me a necklace that was made from rose petals. The petals were kept in a cast iron pan for some time, then rolled into different sized beads. The rose beads were black and had a hole through them. They were then strung with white fake pearls in between to make a short necklace.

The gal's grandmother had made it when she was young, so the necklace was probably 40 years old when I saw it. The beads still had the rose fragrance! I found the 'recipe' or directions online and printed them, but who knows where it's at now. :D

My boys love jerky and meat sticks. They're little carnivores. :)

Marianne, rose beads is such a neat idea. I can't believe that a bead made out of roses would last so long. I was looking around online for a recipe for this. The ones I found called for the rose petals to be boiled and macerated and then formed. Or another one said to grind the petals with a meat grinder and spread them in a cast iron skillet, repeat the grinding daily until they form a paste to shape the beads with. If you ever find your recipe, I hope you'll share!

I had a similar recipe for those rose beads and have been looking. Alas I think it is also gone. :(

Rose petal beads are where we get the word "rosary" from- at one time, most rosaries were made from rose petal beads. The beads were warmed by the handling of 'telling the beads' and released their fragrance, which was pleasing to God (and the user!)
