My husband has been working on a new coop for the girls:

He will be adding one more taller section to the back also.

Awesome coop! That is about the size I am thinking I want (eventually).
Thanks! We are trying to reuse as much as we can as far as building materials. My husband's grandparents have a falling-down, old barn and farm-house on some property they own, but don't really use any more. We took some siding off the old farm house to use as siding on the coop, and we also snagged some barn boards, but not sure what we'll use them for yet.

The metal on the roof was some scrap that a guy was just going to throw out. My husband got it for free from him, and it even matches our little shed.

Boooo! It's 43 degrees and pouring rain out! I was hoping to get some more work done outside today, but it looks like it will have to wait until this weekned.

I can just hide out in the greenhouse after work. Our black radishes are finally sprouting, along with the peas. Every day when I get home, there are more and more little sprouts. Can't wait until I can finally plant them in the ground!

This is the first time I have ever grown any black radishes, but it is supposed to be wonderful for colds and coughs. I have to do some more research as far as how it is administered (it needs to be palatable for the kids) and what the dosage is.

My perennial herbs are greening up nicely. The catnip and thyme are sprouting up, but I still have a crap-load of it left from last year. I need to find some uses for this stuff!

We have 3 hens. Our city allows up to 4, and we did originally buy 4 chicks. But one of them died (mine of course :hit ), so we have the three.

I wish we had 4, but I have heard you shouldn't introduce a new chicken to the group, so for now we are sticking with the trio.

You can add another. If you put the bird in at night while the others are on the roost sleeping. They usually don't notice too much. There will be some pecking order issues but it's usually not tat bad. Just try to add a bird of the same size so it does not get beat up.

I love the coop.

:thumbsup

A chicken lady we know also suggested that to us. She also recommended putting them all in a new, temporary cage as well. Wow, I knew the girls weren't the brightest animals in the world, but I didn't know they could be fooled that easily!

My husband found some windows on the curb for free and brought them home to make coldframes:

You can see snow flurries on top of the glass. :tongue

He also brought home a bathroom sink he found in the ditch, with plans to make an outdoor sink so we can wash produce right next to the garden. It's going to be pretty sweet.

I also noticed some garlic coming up in one of my gardens that I missed harvesting last fall. Can I still harvest it?

It is probably a baby from the garlic you pulled last year. I would let it grow and pull it this fall. Good find on the windows and sink. :thumbsup
