True Pat...and if I can't find some I won't lose any sleep :p

I did find this though Tamarind adds some flavor and acidity, but you can substitute white vinegar.

Good tip for us cheaters!

Welllll, yeah, in the sense that one might say of German potato salad "bacon adds some flavor and the correct consistency to the sauce, but you can substitute butter", or for saurkraut "cabbage is usually used, but a lettuce or collards can be substituted" :p

It really, really, does not taste at all the same with vinegar instead of tamarind. It is still food, of course, but it is not something that someone from Thailand would recognize ;) Tamarind is pretty easy to find (in various forms - paste, dried, concentrate) if you live somewhere with Asian-type ethnic markets, or even in large supermarkets if there is a large asian or caribbean population in your region.

JMHO,

Pat

Ok Pat you win :clap

it was delish but I guess I will attempt to make it properly. I could not find the tamarind yesterday, but I am sure I can if I try the ethnic markets.
