Y'all suck.....we have had temps in the 100s and my darling husband left the thermostat set on 72 at our old house. our electric bill was $108 for the last month and we haven't even been living there!!! :somad

I haven't gotten our first real bill for our electric in the new house. I'm nervous. Our first bill was almost $1200 but that was for the hookup and running the underground lines and stuff. My hubby is an ac-a-holic. I turn it up to 78-80 during the day and then he turns it down to 74 when he gets home and notices.

Mine is usually somewhere around $100 but that's cause I do a buh-gillion loads of laundry every month. I hang everything on the line, btw.

I couldn't imagine a bill lower than $80. That's my low point. Just been too hot this summer....we have no trees to shade the house either, I live in a cow pasture.

Sorry to hear you have more than one bill!

I feel your pain about living out in the middle of a field. The trees I planted a few years ago are just not growing fast enough for my taste. We don't have AC and will avoid it for as long as possible, but it really does make for miserable days when the temperature soars over 90. :/

Like Gina said, gas and electric are so expensive here. We pay $0.1187/kwh for the first baseline quantity of 321 kwh. Then it goes up to $0.13502 for the next tier and then $.29062 for the 131 - 200% of baseline. We don't run the AC except between 4 p.m and 8 p.m. We have a window fan in the bedroom running all nite. We have a gas stove/range, gas water heaters. We have two refrig and one deep freeze. I don't use the dryer. Our bill was a nice low $172.45 for 6/15 thru 7/14/10.

I think I would have a heart attack if I had a power bill over $100/month. :p Good thing I don't live on the east coast or in the south. I'd have to choose between heat stroke or a heart attack. :/

Just got our first bill at the new house, hubby called me (I'm out of town right now) and told me it was $150! I'm happy with that for now. It will definitely go down as the weather gets cooler and I am able to totally rely on the clothesline for drying everything. Last month I had to use the dryer exclusively until hubby got the clothesline up.

We also had to get used to 400 more sq ft in the house. My other home should be WAY less than that.....practically nonexistent. Grrrr.

This was from one of my previous posts, if I had utility gas for hot water or heat it would be much lower as an electric water heater can easily cost $20-$50 a month, gas is less than half that. It would also be lower if I didn't have to boil weekly mashes on the stove for 8 straight hours.

I may have an unfair advantage by ruling with an absolute dictatorship (dogs have no say). There is never more than 1 light on at a time, I keep my water heater at 95F, only wash my clothes 6 times a year and with cold water too, always line dried. I only air condition my bedroom or only heat the bathroom (seasonal).
