LOL... yes, I meant the chickens! My girls sure know that snake is tasty! They caught one last year and I haven't seen one since. Maybe they should have left the snakes alone to eat the mice!

We had a conversation about this this morning. My 7 yr old son came to me and said, "mommy, there's this boy on tv that eats one bit of his food and then throws it in the trash. Why would he do that? He's wasting it."
My response was "I know honey, that is wasteful. That's why we have a chicken bucket so if we get full and can't eat what's left on our plate then we can give it to our chickens and ducks and they'll turn our leftovers into fresh eggs for us and we keep more trash out of the landfills. If someone didn't have chickens or ducks then they could put their food scraps in a compost pile and make the soil better for their gardens and help grow more food."
He says "I know mommy, why doesn't everybody do that?"
Don't you just love that he gets it!?!

In the fresh movie the one farmer would move the chickens to the pastures that the cows had been in.The cycle worked well. My neighbor gives any extra cooked noddles and rice to the chickens.

I haven't had to clean my horse pens since I started letting the chickens out. Matter of fact, I have to lock the chickens up once in a while just so I can make sure that the horses ARE going regularly.Mattemma said:

There is another good use for chickens I took advantage of last summer. Embarrassed as I am to say it, last summer when I went to pull the garbage from the kitchen trash, I found maggots! My first thought was to spray the whole area and the garbage with bug spray! As I was going for it I remembered the CHICKENS! I went out and got 2 lucky girls and set them down where the garbage was, I minuets they were all gone! Then I let them go on the infected garbage. From then on... insect issue? Get a chicken or 2!
