I just ordered 6 bareroot Butternut trees and some bareroot lilacs from Chief River Nursery in Grafton, WI

I checked around their website and everything is very reasonably priced, even when compared to arbor day foundation membership pricing.

Chief River has no Paypal option and only Fedex Ground shipping. First time doing business with them, so I'll let you all know how it goes.

What's their growing zone, and do they grow their own stuff, or are they a drop shipper? I've bought trees from St. Lawrence Nursery in NY. Excellent bare root trees with great selection. Their zone is comparable to mine, so I have confidence in their materials, and they are accurately zone labeled.

You could try their website see what's available in your zone. It's a real nursery from my understanding.

Thanks, I'm not in the market. However, I found that the bases of my 2 apple trees are full of deep borer holes. Just when one of the trees is showing it's very first full load of blossoms. Any one have experience with borers? Is it a completely lost cause, or can I perhaps save the trees by flooding the holes with Dipel? Such a disappointment.

Powder post beatles? Usually woodpeckers take care of bugs on trees pretty well.

Not powder post. They are about 1/4" diameter, and all within 6" of tree base. clean, sharp holes.

Some type of boring insect... A healthy tree should recoop with out much stress.

We ordered a boatload of trees from Chief River this year. We got an email that they will be shipped soon. We still need to figure out where we want to plant them. But, DH did mow the field where most will be going.
