So I'm no expert, not even experienced. But I am a guy and I can tell Oreo is carrying a calf. Swollen udder and teets, she's eating everything in sight and she's starting to look like a barrel. I have no idea when she will drop her calf. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Here's Dasiy Oreo's last weened woolly calf. Kind of a strange girl, very gentle but she likes to be alone. I worked with her a little today to try and get her socializing with the others. She would rather be with them, than me, so it was kind of easy

I must have a real coffee addiction. My coffee might scare you. It’s really dark and strong. I ordered some gourmet coffee a few nights ago that brags to being the strongest in the world. But the jury is still out on that verdict.
On your next coffee machine get a thermal pot. It will pay for itself in saved electricity, it will never burn the coffee, it will stay fresh and hot for hours and you won’t crack the pot. I am rather passionate about coffee.

A friend of mine gave me this bell back in the 90's. Yep I've moved it all this time and never set it up untill today. I asked my wife last week, you remember that black bell? Yes it's hanging on a nail in the barn. She has this "gift" of finding things. Mainly things that I forgot where I put them. I'm serious, it's true... Must be photographic memory or something.

We set the bell up on a 9' length of 2" pipe. Wife put some commodity feed in the buckets, rang the bell this evening. When she does what I call "be feed and put to bed" with all the animals. I just looked not long ago, The buckets ain't been touched 🤣.

Here's what I think... it's called "Cow Logic". They do the exact opposite of what you want them to do. So don't want them to do it and they will.

All that 10 lbs sledge hammer swinging standing in the back of farm truck and they snubbed their noses at our efforts. Oh well at least the rain will clean the dust off of the bell.

A cows life is a good life, so much food to eat, you even get to lay around in it. I'm very thankful to have them here \o/. It makes me happy, just to have hooves on the pasture.

Cow Logic... I've been wanting them to shelter in the two stalls, they wouldn't. Tonight guess where they are? In the stalls. :smack

We have a metal, double walled, insulated metal French press.

I love it.

Metal , so we haven't broken it...

French press, so we can use an electric kettle for hot water super fast... or use a kettle on the wood stove if we are out of power...

The double walled construction means it stays hot for hours.

Books,
As much as I appreciate being able to google stuff and get a quick answer, having information in book form, to me, is valuable. I dont do fiction reading. I do read, for lack of a better word, purposeful?
Like, I love my set of Fox Fire books, WOW what history. We have a collection of what to do and how to do it.
Our book shelf is a simple hand made big heavy shelf. It is full, so we are going to need to build another one.

So, in my current waiting down time I am going to put a book order together. I dont think I can order it just yet. I think shipping my take longer than we will be here and I dont want to create a shipping nightmare.
So, I'll let you know what I find. Most will have to do with "do it yourself, homesteading, off-grid" living.
