I've read that RSV, flu and new omicron-type COVID variants are all expected to be bad this winter. COVID cases are low here and not many people wore masks during 2020 peak, but I'm starting to see more people wearing masks. (very few people choose to wear masks) I bought new carbon filter masks for myself already. They filter out most fragrance allergens, so I like to have fresh ones. They last 6 months, so I get 2 per year and rotate them.

Watched the latest video that @Grandmas Porch referenced... doug and stacy . I will say one thing that I disagree with after MANY years of feeding round bales. If you are in an area that gets much rain, you NEVER put round bales in a feeder with the flat side up....

they need an umbrella.

If you are in an area that gets much rain, you NEVER put round bales in a feeder with the flat side up. The rain will go right down into the hay and it will get wet, moldy and rot twice as fast than if the rounded side is up. The whole purpose of the rounded bale is to shed the rain off it... rain will run down the outside and the amount of wet permeating is 3-6 inches on a tightly rolled bale. If the rain comes and it is a soaker, with the flat side up the rain will sit and will soak in and there can be as much as 1/3 to 1/2 of the bale getting wet, and it will mold. It will not shed off it.
Many people here who have smaller animals, like sheep, will put a round bale in the barn, flat side up, and peel off the layers to feed out by pitchfork full and that is fine if the bale is protected from the weather.
What we do when the sheep need hay, is to roll out about 1/2 the bale to the cattle, and then take the better "center hay" section and put it in the feeder for the sheep... again with the rounded side up. We use a "cradle" type round bale feeder so the sheep can eat at it from the bottom, sides and ends. This just gives the real dry green hay to the sheep and the cattle can pick through the rolled out hay and the more weathered outside will go back into the field for organic matter. Of course, we feed several bales at a time so that we can make a few less trips... and feed different fields on different days due to the number of animals we have.
If you are going to feed hay with the flat side up, then you need to have some sort of "hay saver" roof over it to protect it from the weather.

No you are right, hay round out in the open, round side up. Hay round in a covered area, it doesn't really matter none.

So maybe that is what I've had for three weeks. It seemed like a cold; tested two times for Covid = 0; hoarse voice but not really a cough except at night when it tickles. Chapped nose for the first week; still not at 100%.

RSV is wreaking havoc at schools here too. Hubby is pretty sure he caught this from a guys who came to work sick last week. Hubby doesn't wear a mask at work because it can get in the way. We wear them out in town.

Of course he's pretty sure that he picked up covid there last January there as well.

The trip home was a hoot and a holler! Lots of delays... running back and forth from one gate to another... to catch ZERO planes... my sock was sitting wrong, rubbed on my toe and made a blister....

Finally got an entirely different route... got to Seattle 20 minutes too late to get the last flight to Anchorage... so got to spend the night in the airport... then leave at 6am for Anchorage ...

By the time I hit Anchorage I was in shock I had managed to arrive in Alaska.

Seeing that I was actually getting on the puddle jumper to home had me giddy with surprise!

I made it home!

No luggage though... that is... in Denver last I checked....

Lady helping track my luggage asked what was in it... I said clothes and some chocolate, so don't melt the chocolate... she laughed, said no chance of that!

So... no idea what I did or who I am... about to pass out.

So glad you are safe and made it home. Traveling is so stressful.

I had to get up, my bones were aching.
I have this stuff called DeFlame by Now Brand. It works great for inflammation and everything you would use ibuprofen for.
If I would just remember to take it…
So weird, I have great cell service early morning. Tabs open , searches don’t take an hour But,,

I took Sentry and Pippa out for first potty. On my first cup of coffee. Then I’ll feed dogs breakfast and take them out for second potty. Then I’ll fix breakfast for girls. We’ll go to church this morning. I meet their mom at 3 this afternoon.
