@baymule Sister how are you?? I am praying all is ok,,

Setting my turkey in the fridge today,, I am not cooking a glutton feast, just a turkey; a butternut squash and a very nice salad. I have dropped 20lbs since April and I am not gaining them back.

Yep, turkey from freezer to frig day here, too. Even rethinking that as DD is cooking a full meal & I'll eat there -- but, there's the no leftovers thing 🤔. Might do a small ham instead & take some there, leaving this bird for week after. :idunno 3 turkeys to use up over winter! Two are huge....may thaw, cut up & can one 23# monster, broth & such, too. Sales kill me! 🫨 but couldn't pass Butterballs at 25 cent a lb....no other buy needed.

🤣 now I’m going to feel a bit bad lol. My family is cooking a glutton feast. Having about a dozen people over to share it too. We keep finding stragglers with nowhere else to be…and you’ve got to invite them too🤣. My poor mom is trying to organize everyone! You bring a pie, thank you but no we don’t need more stuffing. Sure shepherds pie is great.
I thoroughly enjoy the holidays but there are a lot suffering through loss this year, it’s a sobering reminder to look for ways to love on people.

Doesn't have to be looked at as a glutton feast! It is brilliant strategy to not have to cook for a week!

:clap

I LOVE leftover dressing with gravy! :drool

I love all yummy leftovers! Sadly... the pie NEVER makes it to leftovers!

No, not glutton for some, but yes for spending money on more food than can be eaten in 3 days, all to say we did / had thanksgiving. We have for the last 12yr's gone to a family members home, not always but most years. I have seen food for 30 laid out and there were only 15, watched children and adults feast all day on cookies, candy, snack stuff, then at dinner time pile their plates only to eat 1/4 of it and dump what was left in the compost bucket. I know each of you are much more conservative in these things and not wasteful. All of us on here have each have & had trials and tribulation.

I have, over the last 42yr's, even when all the children were home or all 20 of us are gathered cooked for 2 days the whole turkey dinner menu. For me and this is not judging anyone, we each do what we do and that's what is best for each, but, for me, I am not going to this year. I too LOVE all the leftovers and not cooking for 3 days.

for me, my heart, everyday is a day of thanks, a day of being overwhelmingly grateful for the undeserved blessings I have. I want to spend my day in total gratitude. Not making it about food but about the blessing from my Father.
As we say in our home, "Everyday is thanks giving" but today thanksgiving, is an extra calibration.-

:caf☕My hens get up at 5:30 even though it is dark out, so I went a head and set the timer at 5:25am and it goes off at 7. Here the suns up at 7:34 am sets at 4:26pm. This little bit of light in the morning wont mess up their natural body clock they are up anyway.

☕ I just can watch the morning news anymore here, fox13, king5, kiro7,komo-- they all say the same thing , same stories. murder, random shooting, stabbing in the park, ,,,, its like a horror story out there. I dont like going to town. I only go when I must, typically only Sunday. but lastly with all of the Dr. appointments between DH and I it is ,,well I guess the new normal.
I love our weather this time of year, not the tropical down pour, but the fog and bright yellow big leaf maples,

praying for you all always,

Mom does the Thanksgiving and I help. We each bring something as well. There will be some leftovers, but it usually doesn't last more than a few days. She does freeze one of the breasts immediately for later. One will do for dinner as neither her nor I eat breast and hubby doesn't care.

Mom eventually boils the carcass for broth.
