Good morning
We got REALLY cold, 15 out when I got up at 5, its 20 now.
We had a roofing company come out and do estimates for the roof and siding. We'll see what they come back with.
Had a long and NOT joyful time at the dentist yesterday.

I still want a cow, a mini cow, no horns, I want milk and meat. 🐄🐄

@The Porch you don't want a "mini" cow. Depending on their background, you could have real calving issues -- plus finding a bull. Look into the smaller breeds...Dexter, milking Devon, small Jersey.
Preferably one that's fresh with calf on side and been trained to milk. Big $$ but proven. Goats give good milk...Saanen are quieter, calmer if handled and give excellent milk. ND are smaller, higher milk fat, less milk per day. It's not beef but, good meat, depending on breed. I want a Jersey cow but, have goats. I buy butter! 😁 Jersey cream for butter but, goats only drop pellets!

A good milk goat gives 1-2 gal a day. Cow, 4-6. Choices 🥰

The nice thing about a goat, especially a Saanen... is a good one can milk for years before needing to be bred again! Also, a smaller size is easier to handle (less danger too, even if very tame, just think of a cow stepping on your foot verses a goat stepping on your foot... ) but sannen still have nice easy to handle teats!

I don't think cows can stay in milk as long as a good Saanen.

And I FULLY get the milk taste issue... but we thought our Saanen milk was very close to store bought 2% cow milk. Which we prefer. And most of our milk needs were to drink it fresh or put on cereal, so perfect for us.

Now, for quality butter... you do need a cow.... we did make some cheeses with the Saanen milk... just fresh easy to spread farmers cheese (whatever it's actual name is), but Saanen do not have the high fat if you want mostly cream and butter.
