I gotta be the "contrary one".....:hide:hide I would much rather see colder temps, frozen ground, and snow, than rain... I hate the cold rain in the winter... The snow can be pushed out of the way and if the ground is cold and hard, it is alot easier to get around to feed and the animals do not get "wet to the skin" like they do with the cold rains. Takes more feed for them to keep up the rumen working properly, to keep their body heat up, in cold rain.

The Galloway breed has a double hair coat like the Scottish Highland Cattle... made for the damp cold... and do not get as much back fat as most of the other cattle breeds... and that hair, is another reason the snow and frost does not "melt off" as much. When any of them have a good supply of back fat the snow and frost should not "melt" off very fast. I used to watch my horse years ago go flying around in the snow and roll in it and all that... and sometimes would see her with a couple inches on her back when she was standing eating at a pile of hay on a snowy day...

Plus the "water" percolates down into the layers of the soil that is soo cold, better with snow than with rain in the winter...slower process....
I set out a hay round this morning. It was like like mud wrestling trying to get the tractor to turn in that mud mess. It's still raining, but this too shall pass.

I just noticed a few things I didnt notice before... those little moos sure have some big ears. looks like ears mature first based on the size of the ears on the big moos. Also, I see broomsedge grass hanging out of some of their mouths. So I guess galloways graze a little late winter standing broomsedge. Isn't that something.

Last year's calves are getting some size...
Yes, they are coming along nicely. 7 more months to go, I'll start finishing mid June.

The big question around here... Will romeo throw three more bull calves this year? 🤔 We won't know until they hit the ground.

My silkies are picking up on their laying. I can start collecting in a few weeks to hatch

He kept moving to be in my view no matter how I turned. Wanted attention.
