Loaded all feeders, inside hay racks -- everything! Feed grains, too....and 3 bottle babes first round. I don't use round bales, so toted about 400# to all the spots . But, done! Now 2nd cuppa and brunch to consider. Wanted to do some outside things but weather says I'm better inside! Age makes you rethink things Maybe I'm getting "soft".

Things that make you go hmmmmm. The wife started a serious conversation yesterday as we were driving home from a doctor's appointment about getting chickens. She wants to get back to an ultra low carb diet, and that means lots of eggs for us. So she was asking how many hens we might need, how large of a coop, where to place on the property. Oh boy.

So thinking on this -- I'd say NO.

First does this low carb work better for her?
Second, costs to build coop, buy chickens, etc.
Third, cost of feed is now high! A dz costs almost store $$
Fourth, your time. Doesn't seem she'll be doing chores.

Really, I have chickens. They free range, so eat the goats food droppings & spills to help offset feed costs. I'm telling you that even at increasing prices in store eggs, it's a better deal for you financially to buy eggs. Save your own self & the aggravation.

Just a quick question... why do I see bottle babies? Won't momma allow the babies to suckle?

One single doeling, momma rejected. Wild momma, going to auction 2/8. Other two are being supplemented as great mom but triplets and big boers, so major milk draw. The trips were 2 doe, I buck...the girls kept pushing him off (he was runt). Then, one sister wanted more & she gets a bottle now...plus mom. These Boer kids at 8-12# at birth & are 25# at a month. Trips take 2 gal a day & mom is stressed. I'll bottle before all lose condition

You would see an issue if more than one calf on cow.

The low carb stuff works well for both of us. Takes more planning and prep time.

Regarding the return on investment, I agree completely. Did some of the math in my head this morning. More investment this time around because there a lot more predators here than at the old place (24 hens, sold extra at work). I am not the young guy anymore to manhandle t-posts and metal fencing to move the secure runs around. I really don't want to be tied down more than we are already with the cats. Any overnight trips are just a day or two. And I loathe the bitterly cold winter. Lol.

i think being able to say no once in a while is a good thing. we all aspire to more than we can do at times, and then later when doing we realize that we have to give up other things we enjoyed more so it is time to then say, nope, i tried, it didn't work, let's return to a better spot and then ...
