Ironwood (Ostrya virginiana)

it's strong, heavy and hard. The trunk is useful for a lot of things. But big branches are great for firewood. It throws off very good heat (high BTU rating). It's very difficult to split by hand with wedges and slege hammer. However a 40 ton splitter can split it with ease.

interesting, i thought it might be due to the age. always like learning something new about this beautiful planet and the life around.

i made prune tea last night. i wanted something warm and needed to eat some prunes too so i just put extra water on the prunes and got them stewed for a while and then mushed them all up good to extract as much of the flavor into the hot water as i could. it worked. got warmed up.

it was a funny conversation with Mom as she was still awake and i rambled on about how as a kid in the hot school lunches there were sometimes stewed prunes. most kids didn't eat them or like them, but i always did like them and still do. who knew we'd be talking about such things 50+ years later? :)

Morning all!
Haven't heard or seen anything from anyone these days so hope all is good with everyone. My H sister was here from Dec 29, 2024 -Jan 21, 2025 and it wasn't a good visit for me at all. I felt like I was very out of place every time I walked in from work or we went anywhere seeing how she was always telling the cashiers "she was from Upstate NY and down here visiting her brother who moved here 9 years ago" . I tried to talk to him about my feelings but while she was here it was like my feelings wasn't valid and I was always told " we was raised differently than you. We was raised to be very clean". Oh btw she's supposed to be back down here at the end of June/ beginning July seeing how they didn't get a lot of time together seeing how we kept having WINTER WEATHER so he had to keep going out for that seeing how the company he works for has a contract with Vdot. He is out there today because of the freezing rain/ sleet mix we're supposed to be getting later today into early tomorrow morning then tomorrow it's supposed to start raining but be cold too so more than likely he'll have to go out then too. Come the beginning of next week (Mon-Wed) we're in for a wintery mix those days so he's going to be out there again.
If nothing else just keep my dog Savage in your prayers as he got away from me yesterday and ran into a car (no the car didn't hit him he actually hit the car) so he is very sore but thankfully nothing is broken.

Wasn't really allowed on my computer even if I was doing something H asked me to do on the computer while H sister was here seeing how she watched my every move and had to teach me how to clean HER brothers house

Sounds like a nightmare.

So sorry!

:hugs

putting it mildly. :(

listening to me is probably not a good idea since i've not been married but this sort of thing certainly steams my buns.

sounds very abusive and that you aren't even married but being used more like a slave. are you his equal in this marriage or not? did you agree to marry her too? nope. she is a guest and if she doesn't like visiting and staying with you in your own home she can stay someplace else. your husband needs to get this through his head. who did he marry? his sister?

i'd say another way to improve things would be to tell him to go visit her at her place.

Coffee is ready. Pour up a big cup @Country homesteader , sounds like you need it. What does the SIL object to? Dogs in the house? Are your cleaning standards not up to her level of expectations? Is your husband happy with your house cleaning when she is not around?

Oh Miss Witch! I’m about to clean out the refrigerator! I’m going to take the shelves out and scrub EVERYTHING! Would you like to come help, or supervise? I could use some conversation while I’m working. How about a cup of hot tea? (Omit the rat poison)
