Our refrigerator went out a couple of days ago. It was built in May of 2016. LG four door fancy ss one. We had already fixed it once when the fan iced up. This time, we all watched utubes and son and hubs tried and tried. No luck.

I went online and found out there was a class action lawsuit in 2020 against LG about their linear compressors. I don't know if the former owners got the compressor replaced. But here we are.

I posted the fridge on FB Give and Receive and got over 15 replies. All of them were that their experiences with their refrigerators, regardless of brand, were dismal. Yes, the old ones are still running. But these new ones die within 5 or 8 years. I was trying to give it away to someone who could buy the compressor on A for $500 and then know how to weld and install it. Nobody wants it.

So off to Lowes and we bought a new one made by GE; also a 4 door. Also bought a dishwasher and a single oven, and a gas range top. I'll try to sell the old dw, double oven, and range top. They still work.........

Just kidding about the first photo. I took that at an estate sale - now that's old! and the sign said it still worked!!

Yep...they used to make things to last. Now -- it's a "stay in business" due to short life, so you buy another! 🤬

I'm dreading the day! All here is from house build 25 yr ago. Hope I don't jinx myself, they're still working just fine!!

I have a little upright 7 cu ft freezer we bought 25 years ago that is still going strong. Deep freezer and fridge are 15. Fridge compressor iced up once. Freezer drawer hadn't been fully closed because something fell behind and I didnt know. After thawing, no issues.

Bought a small apartment fridge when the one had issues because we thought it was dead and couldn't decide on new one. All had tons of stuff we didnt want or use. So it was to tide us over. Now we just have extra.

Hubs meandered into my office this morning. He said maybe there are a few parts I could take off that refrigerator - you know, like the handles. They might be good for something someday.

I said Oh no, I'm not goin.....

OH!! I said. Maybe I can use the drawers somewhere. Maybe the huge flat plastic tray can be used for plants. Maybe...

He said Lets just take it downstairs into the garage and you can use it for storage!!!!

So I will. Its going to be where I'll put my canning jars. I don't have many boxes, and they get so dirty from dirt, dust, mice. I'll put some coffee grounds in there to absorb moisture. What a great idea!!

@Alaskan Saw this article in my FB feed.

During overflights on March 7 and 11, AVO measured significantly elevated volcanic gas emissions from Mount Spurr volcano, Alaska. The increase in gas emissions confirms that new magma has intruded into the Earth’s crust beneath the volcano and indicates that an eruption could occur within the next few weeks or months.
