never in my life did i think that chickens would ever want or need a bath, but i do see birds taking baths (we have a few of them here to watch the birdies) so i guess it just never clicked but then i also have to admit i've never seen a chicken out in the ditches or playing in a puddle like some other birds seem to do.
They actually like the warm water. I wash and check their feet for brumble, look for sticky mites at the base of shafts, check their eyes and ears, and poultry lice. Some chickens tend to build up poop balls on their back ends feathers which can attract flies.

Yes. Ive moved some roosters around now.

Broody and chicks will only be separated a week at most and she can see the flock from that
I have found when the rest of the flock can see the Nanny and chicks , by the time they are two weeks old the rest of the flock is cool with them. they still will boss them around but it is so great having a broody mamma to protect them.

Silkies are very good at helping with chicks. The chicks just cant make it into the silkie houses until they are about a week old. They all let chicks sleep under them at night. There are three other broodies in the house in that pen and they will likely help as soon as they realize there are chicks.

Well that’s all finished. The two bins are set, one is the finished compost and the other is new/ cooking. I moved both piles and the wood chips. We have two LG bait boxes to set out later.
Time for a Spindrift
