I do all the stuff in cast iron that you just ain't suppose to do.

I have a really small skillet that I use for cornbread for 2 to 3. A medium skillet for cornbread for 4 or 5. A larger square skillet for frying bacon, cooking major cornbread, or whatever else. A super large round skillet for frying chicken, baking hams, etc. 2 large kettles for cooking chilli, soups, stews. 2 Dutch ovens that seldom get used for much around here except frying fish outside. A muffin pan. I think thats it.

I really want to experiment with my dutch ovens with coals. Just never have.

I also, do the big no-no and use soap to wash with on occasion. I think the biggest problem that most people have with cast iron is not using it enough. I use mine all the time so it never has time to rust. Once its washed it is set on a low temp setting on the stove to dry good. Actually right this very minute DH is building a rabbit stew in a cast iron pot.

Edited to add: I forgot my two most important cooking pots that I use to cook beans, peas, etc.

Love, Love Love,:love My cast iron. Iam very fortunate I inherited mine, so they are well seaoned. My large chicken fryer came all the way from my great grandmother. All my other piece where my grandmothers, except for my dutch oven that was my aunts and a corn bread pan that was a girlfriends, so all the pieces have history and are very special to me.

I was taught at a young age how to care for it, always use bacon grease on it and I never use soap, and I too dry on a low burner.

I don't have a daughter to pass them down to, but DS does like to cook, so they will someday be his.

I keep promising myself a gift of an enameled cast iron pot but just have not gotten one yet. If anyone here wants to go on and on about how wonderful they are I might have to force myself to buy one. Really, ya'll please twist my arm.

I bought a 12 inch skillet a while back, about the same time I picked up my dutch oven for camping. Guess what I got for Christmas???? dh was giving me the whole "I don't know what to get you" story. I said "don't worry about it. I saw a pan I really want." How sad does that sound?

I went and bought myself a 15 inch skillet. Yup, 15 inches. It's perfect for a family of five. I hate having to make dinner half at a time, then half sits and gets cold while the rest cooks. I think thats why I like one pot meals. Anyways. I broke it in with a fish fry a couple days ago. It was perfect...

You know I had a whole milk crate full of cast iron I got from my mom. It was not hers but just some extra someone gave her. I gave it to my sister about 5 years ago. :he I have hinted a couple times if shes not using them I'll take them back. But I don't think she will give them up.

Those enamel dutch ovens are so beautiful. A discount store I go to had several but there were some chips of enamel off the inside. do you think it matters? I know they were priced great but I did not want enamel in the food.

Hey gina, my camping enamel coffee pot is somewhat chipped, I've used it for years. (Maybe that is what is wrong with me!! :p )

Those pretty colors of the enameled C.I. are like "pot porn" hee hee.

A 15 incher? Now I'm jealous. Did it come with a lid?

I'll twist it for ya.
Just got back from visiting the family and they had stored some stuff for me. I got my cast iron skillet again :celebrate
I couldn't bring it through airport security, so I mailed it home. Missed it too much to go through another year without it. My stainless steel pans are fine but there's nothing like a good cast iron skillet.
