Divided just in time too. One of my pullets is crowing. And of course it's the off-breed one. Do I sell him because he has some cash value, or do I get some pullets for him next year and find somewhere else to keep them?

He's the blue frizzled americauna. Not getting blue eggs out of him.

Good question. Previously, I had painted my coop inside white too. Never really thought about it until I saw your question.

Then it hit me - my grandfather white washed the interior of most of his animal related outbuildings, coop, milk cooler building, etc. So I just did it without really thinking about it. Lol

Things that make you go hmmmm...

Whitewash was used to help prevent mites. I've actually considered getting some lime from the store and doing it to mine. It also makes mites visible against the white background.

Getting hens for a rooster leads down the path of making more coops to house more breeds.

I guess I do a dry white "wash". I put some barn lime on the floor on top of the hay close the chicken door and fire up my leaf blower. Takes all of 15 seconds and the coop inside is a dense white fog. Close the door, open the chicken door and walk away - done.
