One example...my DIL want to the ER for SOB and elevated heart rate in the middle of an unknown cold/flu, whatever. The ER doc wouldn't swab her to test for whatever she may have, though she kept asking for a test.....BUT, he kept insisting it was the C virus. Kept her there for HOURS, arguing with her about testing what she had but wanting to call it the C virus. The guy really, really wanted to be able to report the first case in the state of WV, but he didn't want to test for it. Finally they did a swab~at her repeated insistence~ and identified what she had was influenza A.

See what I mean? He didn't want proof that it wasn't C virus, but still wanted to insist she actually had it. Seemed very excited about the whole "pandemic", like this was his version of being deployed to Vietnam. All very weird stuff but I suspect this is being played out all over our nation.

yes, some people are both gullible and excitable. i'll leave that alone.

in terms of actual science, we know already that a number of people have it and show no symptoms so they are never tested.

in order to have an accurate count of the actual complication rate vs. the infection rate you'd have to take blood samples from every citizen at multiple times and i doubt there are many countries which will be even attempting something like that.

through time though we will get more information on this virus.

in the meantime, wash your hands, keep your hands away from your face if you've not recently washed them and might be touching surfaces that may be touched by others of unknown infection status.

not very hard to do IMO, but people seem to forget the basics and only focus on the drama. kinda like the drive-by rubber neckers at an accident scene. hard to resist looking and commenting.

*drives off, neck slightly sore*

Yep. Drama queen (or king in his case). And the media doesn't really care about the pandemic and the people affected except how it impacts THEIR sales, so the more drama they can inject into it, the better. Without downplaying the very real seriousness of the disease and its spread, I'm beginning to feel like this is a soap opera.

I am watching 60 minutes AU interviewing doctors in Italy. One hospital is saying they have had no survivors. The doctor said they want someone to get better so they know they are doing the right thing... If they haven't had anyone recover, its pretty obvious they are not doing the right thing.

Has China released its treatment protocol? Why are there not more treatments or the australian claimed "cure" being used if the medical system is taking it so seriously? I saw one doctor on twitter saying to avoid a particular treatment because it causes QT interval elongation - like most psychiatric medications on the market... Yet they arn't warning the world off psych drugs AT ALL.

Pharmaceutically there could be much more progress. I guess they are waiting until the profit margin hits optimum.

Treating this like the 1918 Spanish flu seems best. That had a 2% death rate and that's probably closer to what this is than anything. We didn't need another respiratory virus killing people on top of the flu.

I'm sorry Beekissed. West Virginia had it's head in the sand and refused testing for Covid-19 for the longest time. Never ever accept a diagnosis without testing. Good on you DIL to keep insisting

Trump going on about hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin taken together curing this has resulted in people in some countries listening to him and getting poisoned. Plus runs on those drugs. Most in the US realize he's not a doctor or scientist and has no idea what he's talking about.

No one listens to Trump outside of the USA lol. He's a worldwide joke to most.

This is the tweet I was talking about, the same treatment as mentioned, from a French study being warned against by a doctor in the Philippines.

This side effect is worth the risk for chronic pain and psychiatric patients, but not for covid 19 patients? People shouldn't be taking any drug that isn't prescribed and monitored anyway - but I guess that depends on the country.

We can not access medications like this in countries with universal health care - they are restricted and only available via prescription.

I hope the scientists can find a suitable treatment for those who want it. Whatever Italy is doing now does not seem like the correct treatment.

Crazy old guy from one of my chicken groups insists that the flu death rate is 8% and that this new virus doesn't matter because the flu has killed moe this season than have died from Covid-19 so far.

That attitude of "let's pile on More deaths on top of annual flu because they dont mean anything since I don't personally know them" makes me want to slap people.

This guy is 86 and in poor health.
