Got my box today too. Was so pleased that we were allowed to donate a box next week.

When thinking SHTF preparedness I did not consider how driven DH and I would be to help others in the community. I need to shift my mindset to thinking bigger than just my family.
Same! I always feel like I have to prep for us, my kids, the neighbors and anyone who might need help.

My county is 24th worst hot spot in the USA now. I'm not surprised. Disappointed, but not surprised.

Got my produce delivery box today! So thankful for internet and delivery! This would be very bleak time without those. I need to step up my self sufficiency game in general. I'm thankful I had the interest and preparation in the decade leading up to this, but this one situation illustrates how quickly things unravel and how UNprepared I am for anything else.
I'm curious as to what you do with your deliveries to protect yourself from possible disease transmission? Do you handle the box outside, wearing gloves and mask, removing each item and sanitizing it as best you can (vinegar rinse? anything else?)

all we have been doing all along is wearing masks and bringing things home (take mask off at the car since we're the only ones riding in it). wash mask after each use, have several for each trip as we might go into several stores.

i wash my hands when i get home, every time. i remind Mom to wash her hands every time. she does usually, but i want to be sure.

after i wash my hands i carry in the groceries and take them out of the bags and then we stuff the bags in a holder so they can be reused. then i wash my hands again. as a matter of habit i wash my hands fairly often during the day. it really saves a lot of illnesses (we hardly ever get sick).

Mom puts the groceries away and i remind her to wash her hands after that and also remind her to try not to touch her face (also when we are out and about and in the car coming back).

no other washing has been done of boxes, produce or other things unless there is some other problem that is obvious (like someone coughing or sneezing directly on our cart, bags, items <-- this has never happened so far).

i hope this helps. :)

I havent worried about it yet. It seems the virus doesnt persist for long on cardboard - <24 hours. But with colder temps I will have to reconsider.

The shipping time for my produce box is 3 days, so I'm not too concerned about anything in the box having viral material on it.

If the delivery person coughed I would be very cautious in cleaning the outside of the box or opening it.

I'm taking anti viral supplements, so I expect my body could handle minor challenge. I'm currently most concerned about transmission through indoor air HVAC systems in cool weather. Mostly concerned DH will get it at work from a coworker. Sharing indoor air for 8 - 12 hours a day is no match for a mask, IMO.

Contact tracing here shows that bars and restaurants, and gathering with family and friends are the most common known spreading events. The bars are full every night with people who are not distancing or wearing masks.

I can't get delivery where I am, but I use disposalable antibacterial wipes on the stuff I get from the store :) wiped down before they go in the fridge or pantry. The stores ask for people not to touch what they aren't going to buy, but if I pick up something damaged, I'm definitely putting it back! Especially with the prices we pay out here.

I often wonder if the initial transmission would have been less if the stores had gone back to using plastic bags instead of people bringing their own. While I am all for loving the environment, the plastic bag ban really made life much more difficult for me. Having to unpack the bags now into the Esky (cooler) and then unpack the Esky back into baskets to bring from in the car. I can't carry the whole lot in and fabric bags get wet in the Esky. The bags live in the car which gets hot enough to fry an egg on the dash. Plus, eventually I will have to actually buy bin bags. Pain in the neck, literally!

Hope you guys stay safe.

The virus persists on plastic 72 hours versus <24 hours on paper and fabric. Plastic is not helpful with this virus.

I am not the least bit concerned about this issue. I handle such things as I always have: no worries! If I worry about deliveries being a disease vector, I must also worry about everything, and I mean EVERYTHING I touch. I must sterilize every bit of this and that that comes into my house. Not gonna happen. FYI, my dtr after catching covid, has tested negative a week or so later, and been cleared to go back to work. She still feels weak, as she would if catching the flu or a bad cold. Do the research on the testing protocol that I posted in one of the articles, and you will realize that the higher covid numbers around election time are simply more of the same old plandemic to keep people in a panic and keep their attention off the real issues.

Uhm, except its increasing even more rapidly AFTER the election. How does that fit into plandemic?

COVID was found in tissue samples in Italy that had been taken in September 2019. It existed globally before China's outbreak and the pandemic. That doesnt jive with plandemic either.

I know my husband and I were very sick in early February. Our dr is sure we had covid then. This was before it all exploded. He should have been hospitalized. His dr talked about the patents that were getting the flu and how his office lost several to a pneumonia, except they were testing negative for the flu. We both still have issues related to it.
