The entire corona virus issue is a POLITICAL issue. If we can't discuss this important detail that has taken over our lives here, then... censorship is alive and well, now... isn't it????
Thank you for your feedback and perspective. Our team will keep this into consideration, and if / when we decide to change our current stance / perspective / rules, we'll let everyone know!

It's not a political issue. It's a virus - a medical and public health issue. Trying to make it into a political issue is why the USA has failed in responding to COVID-19. The virus is a global problem but the politicization of it is unique to the USA.

It would be great if, on an SS forum, we could talk about how it affects our SS decisions and lifestyles. This is in an "emergency preparedness" subforum. End times rants, politics, and disinformation are not appropriate.

Thanks y'all for the thoughts. I worry if we keep talking about why this isn't political, it will just become political.

So, let's move-on and talk about Covid in a non-political way.

I'll start :)

Where do y'all fall within the brackets of getting the vaccine? I'm not in any really big risk groups, so I figure I'm a ways away.

I heard on the news today that one of the virus makers said that they expect the vaccine to last at least a year.

I was like: o_O

I was just expecting the vaccine to last indefinitely... at least like 5 years, or lots more?

We're pretty far down. Hubby is 53 and I'll be 46 shortly. Even with his stroke and my bad asthma, we're not high priority.

My parents are registered caregivers for my severely autistic nephew and cancer survivor niece so they will get their shots as soon as they are available there as they are top tier. Their bad health didn't help any. Mom is aware to warn them about her allergies and hope she doesn't react to it.

Well that is new. The last thing I heard was that the vaccine would last 3-4 months.

I don't plan on getting it. I am eligible for it but I don't trust it. My body reacts to vaccines.

Vaccine: They will have to hold me down before I'll allow anyone to insert any type of vaccine in my body ever again. If it means that I will be blocked from stores, from commerce, from medical care... so be it. And, I can't respond to this w/o it being politicized. IMO, there are components of the vaccine that are in direct violation of Christianity: Human fetal cell lines, for starters. (read up on MRC5) Next objection: Recombinant RNA that has never been successfully used in humans. Last time it was used, IIRC was during the swine flu. They had to take it off the market b/c it was killing and having so many adverse reactions. Final objection: My body. My decision.

i suspect reports of how long the vaccine will last are somewhat premature, but they are likely going on what they are seeing in terms of what the body is producing as far as antibodies go and not also evaluating the longer lasting immune system effects.

time will tell IMO.

from what i've seen so far though, the virus is not reinfecting a huge number of people so that tells me that the body does remember this virus well enough now in these current variations. some of the mutations have been interesting and worrysome but as of yet as far as i've heard none of them are mutations which mean the vaccines approved won't work and i think that also means the chance for reinfection will be small (limited to those who have had a reduced immune system response to begin with for whatever reasons).

the really good news is that they have the technology to tweak these vaccines rather quickly if troublesome mutations do start popping up.

my previous comments about the number of infections being important still apply. reduce and work to limit all cases and you reduce the chances of troublesome mutations and then further issues of how to change behaviors or having to treat this as a survival threat.

my own stance is give me the vaccine ASAP. not sure when that will happen, probably within the next three months sometime. i'm more in favor of older people getting it and those in health-care before me. Mom will not get the vaccine.
