If you want to get ready to move to a farm I would look at Storeys site and check out their titles. They have excellent books. Then go to Amazon and order them cheaper (sorry to be cheap but every dollar counts).
In addition to Amazon's used books, another good source of used books (to buy or sell) is half.com

Mine came on a cold and rainy day along with my beekeepers magazine, couldn't have come at a better
time, so I know what you mean by wanting to curl up by the fire and read it.

We dropped all our paid magazine subscriptions. Our local public library has subscriptions to most of the magazines we were purchasing......

Grit
Backyard Poultry
Ohio Farmer
Mother Earth News
Backwoods Home
E the environment magazine
Outdoor Life

We still get Country Living magazine, as that had a free subscription.

If I find an article I would like to keep, I either make a copy of it at the library or scan it into my computer files. But then, I make sure I mark the source, so if I quote any of the information, I can state where the info came from.

If I feel the entire magazine issue is worth keeping, I purchase it at the local news stand.

Natalie, which beek mag did you decide on - or are you getting both (we do!) :)
I get Bee Culture and American Bee Journal.
By the way, I used up the rest of that honey making cornbread the other day, it was delicious! Thanks for sharing.
On another note, I got my first egg today:)

Ha! I've never been able to choose one over the other, so we get both, too.

We just bottled up 48 lbs of Maine honey, if you'd like some, let me know!

On another note, I got my first egg today:)
I saw that in another thread. Which hen and how old? I can't wait for mine to start laying!

Hi Ann,
It was one of my production birds, a black star and she is 24 weeks old today just like her 6 sisters.
My other girls are all 20-22 weeks old now, so just waiting......

oooh, Maine honey, would love some. I appreciate your sharing, its holding me over until I get my own hives up and running this spring. Even then I won't get honey for a while.
If my girls start laying on a regular basis here I will bring you some eggs too. I'll trade you some eggs for some honey.
Yours should start laying in the next month or so too and then you will really be in business!
