I've needle felted flat drawings, and always wanted to try doing the 3-d look stuff... having my own wool roving would be a huge reason that I want sheep (plus the milk and lamb chops too.. lol)

Those look really great! I love the way the lips on the grandfather portrait turned out.
Grandpa really does have a big mouth like that, the photo looks like he was about to say something.

I have contacted a lady here a few miles away who keeps sheep. With any luck I'll get some great stuff straight from the source - she said a person can get about 10+ pounds of wool from one sheep a year, although they only sheer them once or twice... they were just sheared last week. :weee

Too cool! I see a home-based business doing "portraits" of grandma and grandpa!
I'd love to do that, I need to practice more, so I have photos of my work as well - I'm thinking I might try the grandmothers next or even my father and mother.

I can't believe how realistic they look. Your work is amazing. I'd like to get directions to give my daughter. Is there a book I could get her? She crochets, knits, and does all other types of crafts (and is currently out of a job). Any help would be appreciated.

I like this book for how to do portraits of pets (since that's what I draw I wanted to try making them in 3-d too :) )

If you do a search on Etsy, the average pet portrait needle felted sells for around $200 (for one with a 3-4 inch body), like this one for $250USD:

I can imagine it would be a fantastic way to have fun doing crafts and make a little extra money too.

I bought a book called wool pets. there are also a good few video's up on you tube that were a great help to me.
I started this about a week and a half ago!

I'm working on the other grandfather today - but I don't know what color eyes he had so I'm kinda stalled... my hubby needs to phone his dad later when they're all off work and ask him that odd ball question.

I'm going to try to add shoulders to both grandfathers and try put them on some kinda wooden mount, they'll be birthday presents for my hubby's folks in March.
I'll try do the grandma's as well, but I find women a little more difficult to do.
