I think it depends upon how much you are planning to use the tools you purchase. If you're looking for a tool for everyday use, I'd go with something else. As a contractor, I would never buy Craftsman as I don't think they are designed for heavy use. But for occasional use, they seem to be a reliable brand with a huge store to back them up if you have a problem.

I remember the days when I used to surprise my husband with Craftsman this and Craftsman that. Finally, the honeymoon ended, and he brought himself to tell me while he appreciated the thought, I could spend my money better and please him more by just giving him nicer tools every two or three years. I wised up. Now he gives me a list.

It would probably depend on how hard you're going to use them and what's in your price range. Craftsman hand power tools such as routers and handheld drills aren't nearly the quality they used to be.

As an example, I bought 3 Craftsmen Pro model routers thinking I could wear one out and keep the others running by stripping parts from the one that went bad first.

What actually happened very shortly after that they were all down with the same problem. The top bearings became sloppy in the plastic housing. I've been using Porter Cable and Bosch ever since.

I love Craftsman products and have for the past 30 years or more. My father used them. Sears was the only place in town to buy good quality tools, or at least we didn't know of anywhere else.

I have a few Craftsman tools, and they do their job. I am not sure how they would handle for some heavy duty, everyday kind of job, but they work for me. I always look into a product before I buy, and If I get it home and don't like the tool, I take it back. I always keep my reciepts.
