We just got back from the orchard with a bushel of apples. My son's class made apple sauce in a crock pot yesterday and he loved it! This is a kid who won't eat grocery store jarred apple sauce. I don't like it either. From what he tells me his teacher used apples, sugar, water and cinnamon. I found a similar recipe on line, also more complex ones. Just curious if anyone's tried it before.

It's the only way I've made it. Yummmm.

I made a run of it in the crock pot last year. Turned out great!

i'm a big crock pot fan! or i've been making 'baked caramelly apples' in the oven - just apples, brown sugar, and a bit of vanilla. cover tightly and bake in a slow oven until dark and yummy!

I've made pear sauce in the crockpot with great success. Apples should work just as well.

I make crock pot applesauce all the time. I love it. It does turn out a little darker though.

I saw one recipe online that called for the juice of one lemon. Would that be to help with darkening do you think?

We make applesause every year at this time. 3 lbs of apples makes 1 qt of applesauce. Thats what we figures out. We make one to start with and cook 4 more and jar them for the winter. Usually 1 jar per month of winter. By spring we are in the mood for other goodies. Have fun and try canning them for winter. Nothing beats apple sauce with a lamb chop in Feb. :)
