WOW Dacs it sure hit crappy for you! Sorry. Those ice storms can reek havoc.

Stay warm and safe!

A generator can be bought. You will be fine there for the future.
Yup, at least a radio. I have 3 radios, granted they are a 1000 years old but they work...LOL---and a little music is a great thing in front of a fire relaxing while the world around you is icing!

2 easy fixes for you when you thaw out!

take care and hope it all returns to normal fast for you and power is restored soon!!!!!

Dac - sounds like you were almost prepared. At least someone loaned you a generator. That helped.

Hate you are having to deal with all that weather. According to all I am seeing on the news there are so many people looking at no power for a long time.

Yeah, I know what you mean about not being a priority on the power companies list. That happened to us once. 7 days without power and everyone around us had power within 3 or 4 days. We fell through the cracks somehow. Finally, a 3rd phone call asking why, someone came out and tripped a switch on a transformer. DUH.....took them all of 2 seconds to trip that switch. So as soon as you can - start calling and call everyday.

Dac, sorry about your snow/ice storms!!! I've been where you are with the electricity and they do tend to forget everything except the main lines in a case like this.

Back in 1992, I think it was, our whole state was in a state of emergency, with lines down everywhere. We didn't have a generator either and the electricity was out for 3 weeks. We couldn't even dig out of our road to the mainroad! When we finally did, the Nat'l Guard was out there cutting trees off the main highway.....we begged for them to at least plow our road and see about the electricity, which they did! We didn't have electricity for another week while they worked on it. It almost seemed like the world stopped!

Back when we were totally off grid we barely noticed if no one else had electricity! :p

Hope you are back to your normal operating procedures before long! :frow

It warmed up a little today and the sun finally came out. A couple more days like today and I will be able to drive to the blacktop without snow chains.

The ice on the trees is starting to melt and big chunks of ice are falling off the power lines.

It is real bad in Kentucky. There are predicting weeks without electricity in some places. Some counties are 100% without electricity and water is scarce. They are trying to get generators to the water treatment facilities. There are rumors of a shortage of gas but there is plenty of gas, just no electricity to pump it with. Some people are evacuating the area.

The Home Depot near me cannot keep generators in stock and it is first come first served. Since I am borrowing a generator I will wait until the crisis is over to buy one.

Chickens are fine but they are afraid of the snow.

We are so glad we invested in the wood burning stove last summer. It is quite comfortable except for not having hot showers.

Internet comes and goes. I was trying to post this morning and I think I lost the post. I don't even remember what it was about.

We will have lots of firewood next winter if I get off my lazy rear end and get out and cut it.

DAC, I was thinking about you today will sliding on the ice in someone's driveway. Tempted to complain but clamped my mouth shut. Hope things are looking up there soon!
We just invested in a lot of locally grown meat that we will start picking up in June. We've never had a generator before but will be looking for one before June!

Water went away again. Ugh. Back to melting snow and ice for the chickies and the toilet. We still have enough for our use. Went to my sister-in-law's to use the shower and washing machine. And their electricity for this post. :D

We are now in the mode of every time we go out we stop and fill up the gas cans so we can keep the generator fueled. Even with not running the generator a lot it is still expensive. If you think your electricity is expensive try fueling a generator. That isn't even for the entire house, just the freezers, fridge, one light bulb, recharging batteries, and computer use.

It has warmed up and the ice was falling off the trees. Musical and dangerous to be under a tree. Our driveway is almost passable in 2WD.

Still no electricity. Monday will call the cooperative to find out the status of repair work. Electricity is still not dependable in other areas of the county. It comes and goes.

Since we are borrowing a generator there is no real rush to buy one. Now we can research and get the one we want instead of what is available.

Kentucky is still in a real hurt. Has anyone heard from any of our Kentucky members?

I am 1 of 5000 homes in my electric cooperative without power. I don't know how reassuring that is.
