I have noticed the jewel weed is sprouting.

Man, this is miserable. The itch.....
I slapped some ACV on it this morning, feel the burn..... Wow!! But it doesn't itch.

The local feed store has poison ivy soap. The ingredients were,
Lard
Jewel weed juice
lye

Give any of you soap makers any ideas? I know I am wishing the jewel weed in the back yard to grow for the first time EVER. ;)

I have jewel weed that I pulled up this past fall and stuffed it inside olive oil. It's been sitting in 2 quart jars in the kitchen window since September. I can't wait to make some poison ivy soap!

I was going to make a bar with that olive oil and add in calamine at trace. All with goat's milk of course!

I still get the poisons really really badly.

If yours is that bad, I'll tell you what I do, but can't really "recommend it" if you know what I mean. When mine gets to the OMIGOSHICANTSTANDIT stage, I run wicked wicked hot water (not scalding, btw) through the faucet and fill up a bowl with 1 cup bleach and 2 cups hot water.

Pour that over the spots. The hotness of the water really makes the itch go away and the bleach dries it right out.

One time me and Big G went camping when we first fell in love. We had a moment one day.

The next morning I woke up, went to the doctor and tried to explain why my lady parts had doubled in size.

We no longer have moments in the woods.

Oh sure...it's funny NOW. Not really when you're in the doctor's office w/an ice pack spread eagle. She just shook her head.

ETA - I did NOT use that bleach treatment that time. No way. The only thing that made that any better was some serious steroids and ointment.

When I was in the 2nd grade - oh 'bout 150 yrs ago - a friend and I rubbed poison ivy on our arms and legs so we could lay out of school. Yes - we did know what it was. Well, she swelled up and had to go to the ER and she missed school. I, however, just got the itchy rash and my mom sent me to school with a small bottle of bleach water and cotton balls. When the itch was unbearable, I just dabbed it on.

One good thing that came out of that was I didn't get poison ivy for about 40 years after that. I'm just starting to get it again when I'm not careful with the vine and weed clearing.

Oh, KC...the memory...and horror.

A friend of ours had it when we were all like 8. My sister and I thought it was so cool. She showed us where a poison ivy plant was growing and we, too, grabbed a big ol wonker of a plant and rubbed it on our legs, arms and FACE. Back in those days we wore those jeans that zipped up the side about up to your knee...yes, we unzipped and got as high up as we could.

Two days later we burst in on my mom using the toilet to show off our great idea.

I was laid up in bed for four days after that, then promptly sent to school with arms and legs wrapped in gauze for days and a swollen eye.

I've gotten it EVERY YEAR SINCE. My twin sister...NADA.

Some people don't react to poison oak. Did you know that? Weird.

I will probably get poison ivy just reading about it. The worst I had was when I was little we kids threw a bunch of "vines" on the campfire - the smoke became a ghostly poison ivy carrier. Eyes, nose, lips, throat swollen. We had to leave the camp and get me to a doc because my face was like a big diseased tomato.
and of course there are the bathroom behind the tree stories LOL
