We had a very nice night! No wind, not a cloud in the sky, about a gazillion stars out and it was still close to 50 degress at 11 p.m.. This is still February, right?
66 and cloudy right now...supposed to get up to 72 today!
My books will be here sometime tomorrow, we'll be at Mom's though so that that'll buy me a bit of time for staying out of trouble with them!
Well, I'm outta here for now. Just wanted to do a quick check in!
We didn't get in a rush to hit the woods today and in hindsight, we probably should have as it was down-right tropical out today!
Spent 2 - 3 hours digging shallow trenches, sowing the seed, covering 'em up and then walking over top the seeded rows to make sure they had good soil contact. Then we raked leaves back over the planted area. We got 3 out of the 4 ounces planted today and I'm glad I decided to start small for this year.
We managed to make 8 beds and you couldn't even tell that we'd been there when we were done...except for the intentional piles of rocks that are marking the beds. Supposed to be in the 50's this coming week, so I'll get my last ounce out then and I've got from now until September to get some more areas prepped for my fall planting.
It was 76 when we got in from the woods.
Cleaned up and went to WallyWorld before school let out...best time to go there for us.
Got back from there then hit the woods again...this time to drag in some deadfall to use in the fire pit. Between the two of us, in one trip, we drug in enough to do for awhile (I would have had to make 4 trips doing it by myself).
I'll try and keep the wind here for ya, so you can have a fire!
Was gonna get my fruit trees sprayed with Dormant Oil since the wind was calm. Hahahaha...got the jug in my hand, opened the shed door and the wind had picked up that danged quick.
Glad you got some really nice weather to be outside in.
It was gardening weather here too. A friend gave me a bunch of 1/2 grown collard plants, so I planted them in my bed right away. They will grow a bit more, and I'll harvest them "as needed", till the warm season stuff needs the space.
My church is next to a trailer park, and in order to get to the church, I have to drive thru it. Someone had a fire going in front of their trailer tonight. I had so much trouble driving past it, but I don't know what they would have said if they had had a perfect stranger stop and sit by their fire.
Went to WallyWorld before our civilized visit to moms and stocked up a few things towards my seed sowing frenzy...3 mini greenhouse/seed starting trays and a spare bag of potting soil. Got a steal of a deal on some Elephant Ear bulbs (?) 5 for $10.00. I'll be planting those babies along the southside fence to help soak up the neighbors' greywater that runs onto our place.
Stopped at the little "catch all" store on the way to moms place and found a better deal on potting soil so we'll grab a bale of it next time we go by there.
Before we made it to mom's, we made one more stop at the nursery just past her road and we'll be going back to stock up on some fruit trees and fruiting vines. Probably would have brought a few things home today but we had Bub with us.
Got to mom's and spent a couple hours cutting up some downed wood to get it cleaned up.
We took the fixin's for hashbrown casserole and made dinner for the family. If I knew thas my sister, bil and niece were all gonna be joining us we'd have made a double batch. Regardless, we all ate good and no one left the table hungry!
Got home and my books were holding down the steps to keep them from blowing away.
Not sure what I'll be getting into later today, but it'll probably involve seeds, soil and a new book!
I'll have me one of those mom caves, eventually! I'm using the new shed as my potting shed for the time being. We'll eventually use the frame from our soft-side shed as a greenhouse frame (are we there, yet??? ).
Since it was windy here, once again, I basically took the day off! Been skim-reading the new books, playing with my keffir cheese, sorting seeds...basically just whatever.
My daffodils started opening today...I think the wind forced them open!
The wind has finally calmed down so I'm gonna return the rocks in my pockets back to their rightful places.
