Obviously I have a LOT of catching up to do around this journal! I've missed you Tortoise!

I LOVE my Dark Cornish hens. They are everything I want in a homestead bird with a bit of sass rolled in. I currently have about 8 each of Buff Cornish pullets and Red Laced Cornish. I will let you all know how it is going. I don't keep any roosters at this time.

My dark cornish rooster pecked a whole in the milk jug I use to refill waters. He's such a pain! Too much sass for me! :gig.

Are the buff and red-laced cornish less sassy?

DH agreed to run the incubator again this year! We're going to run banty-standard cross eggs from a friend - out of curiosity for what might come of them - and another batch of meat mix.

More importantly, he says "you can have as many goats as you want" ..... on the condition that I do all of the work for them all year round. :gig sounds lovely now, but not so much hauling buckets of water across the yard in winter or learning to drive the tractor to deliver round bales.

Makes me wish I didn't have health problems... I've love a mob of goats to graze out the buckthorn and prickly ash.

First time I had the buff or red laced Cornish, but so far they are still full of sass. They are game birds after all.

I'll have to warn my husband of what he's gotten us into. We are used to calm birds (minus our temperamental roo)!

Edit- he grew up on a farm so maybe I should have said I am used to calm birds!

Edit again- apparently he already knew this. Funny how he didn't clue me in... Hmm...;)

I will pass on trying other colors of cornish then! LOL! I muchly prefer calm birds!

I mentioned the hydrant to DH, then teased about getting more goats. I told him I wasn't serious about getting more goats, but I want the hydrant. He says "I'm not putting in a hydrant for 3 goats!"

Now I need more goats. :gig
