Ducks, chickens, turkeys, goats, garden, pond, fruit trees, grinding equipment, KNOWLEDGE, and a healthy dose of I don't give a rats behind what everyone else thinks about what I'm doing. :D

ETA: And a massive list of outsourcing capabilities, both manpower and goods.

ETA AGAIN: And guns and ammo!!!

If the SHTF as is so popular to talk about, our self reliance would be pretty good. That is provided our mortgage holder could be disposed of.

Lots of chickens for eggs or meat, turkeys to eat or sell, cow for milk and meat from any male calves or sell any heifers, very large garden, 100 pints of canned chicken and turkey, 100 quarts of assorted tomato products, sweet potatoes, beans, jams and other assorted stuff, 6-55 gallon drums of water. Enough to last a little while. Almost forgot the 5 indentured servants. Of course they have to be fed and watered.

I was 160 acres in full operation

over 120 goats for breeding meat kids
over 100 sausage hogs
over 50 black angus
over 400 chickens for egg production
pets thrown in
80 acres of hay in production
10-15 acres of vegetable production
small orchard/berries
20 acres cane production
full scale farmer markets every single weekend and during week
goat milk soaps

NOW

no vegetable production---other than my small garden I will make
no molasses this year...too much work lol
pet goats left only
all hogs sold now
all chickens gone (buying fresh eggs down the road)
pets still here
cutting hay back to about 20 acres
all angus sold except 2 preggers
cut back markets to weekends and soap sales only
going to buy some horses and have fun riding instead of working! :)

I am out of the farm biz. I buy mostly what I need now ---I guess I can be considered a backyard farmer now....shifting life over to easy for me...lol

Enough gas (or good shoes for walkin') to get me to the homes of few friends I have. :D

Seriously, starting to work on it.

This is fun! I love hearing how self reliant others are. :)

In a nutshell, on 5 acres...
Apple/pear/cherry/plum orchard, biggy garden, raised beds, wild harvest of salal, huckleberries, chanterelle mushrooms on my property, endless firewood-free, solar clothes dryer, chickens, ducks, sheep, horses, fertilizer out my ears, rain barrels etc, seasonal pond, low electric needs, freezer full of meat that I raised, compost pile, heavily mulched gardens=not much water, sheep take care of the lawns, I do everything around here with hand power...saws, post hole digger, etc. Even in the kitchen, I don't use 'power tools' unless I'm under the gun, hand coffee grinder etc. Wood burning stove top. Rocket stove outside. I can sew anything, knitting is getting better, spinning is coming along.

I can't think of anything else right now.

Speaking of ammo etc., I'm getting a gun soon for the racoon that keeps pestering with the dog food etc outside.

Man I got tired just reading about all that work. No wonder all the farmers around here look worn out.:)

Awww, come on! Play with us!! :D

I have a pressure canner, dehydrator etc. Oh, and every meal is served on real plates that get a good pre-wash from one of 3 dogs...maybe even the cat. :p Cloth napkins too.

We recycle or reuse EVERYTHING!!
