Dehydrated beef heart sounds lovely- I wish I could get it at the supermarket. There isn't a butcher around. There are hunters, though. I wonder if one of them still has a deer heart around...
Any organ meat will hold together. Boiled or dehydrated liver is good too.

Hey Val, do you have any Mexican or Oriental grocery stores near you? That is where I get my beef heart.

Wheat is not good for dogs. I would find an alternative. Almond flour maybe?

All meat would be best, but if you need a filler, I would avoid wheat, corn meal or soy.
True, but...........wheat isn't nearly as bad as corn, as far as causing allergic reactions. In an ideal world, all dogs would be fed a raw diet, but, that isn't an option for everyone. Rice in a filler form you can cook easily with (for dogs anyway) is kinda hard to come by for most folks. And besides, this is only for treats, not the main course of their diet.

I just finished making dog food for my old gummer and I used a lot of rice, carrot pulp, yellow squash, potato flakes and apple pulp for filler. All of it was cooked in beef broth and raw meat and eggs were added later to the batch before freezing. I even left large hunks of gristle and a few soft rib bones in the mix.

I meant to add some whole oats...will add that next time.

Mine love this too... we do liver, lungs, kidneys and heart (the people in this house don't like organ meat, but the dogs LOVE it). They also love bully sticks... which are dehydrated bull penis... that's there favorite... our store calls them bull pizzles.

I do clicker training too, and for not-so-high value treats (like training at home and not in an agility ring) I just soak 2 cups of their regular kibble in 1/4C sodium free beef stock... it's enough liquid to make the kibble swell and be soft, but not enough to turn it into mush... my dogs love that.

First you catch a dog........

Loved your title. I feed my dogs mostly raw, every meal is a "treat" to them :)
